RAIS the ROOF
We are sorry that our first email this morning had a faulty “Give” button. Please use the button in this email to give to the RAISE THE ROOF campaign. You may also make out a check to Church of the Reconciler with “Roof” in the memo and send to
Church of the Reconciler
112 14th St. N.
Birmingham, AL 35203

We apologize for hitting you with two emails in one day. Thank you for joining in our community effort to replace the Church of the Reconciler roof.
We remain exceedingly grateful for your generosity that helped us successfully complete our Reconciler 2020 Capital Campaign. That campaign helped us retire our mortgage, hire an executive director to launch our sister nonprofit Community on the Rise, and raised funds for interior building improvements. We have been busy renovating our space, including updated electrical wiring and fresh paint on all walls. We will also be updating our outdoor signs with new logos. And by the end of the year, we will complete a sanctuary renovation that already includes new chairs, carpeting, decor, and lighting that make our space more welcoming and functional.

We are grateful to you. You empowered us to create a facility with beautiful spaces that confirm people’s worth and encourage them to set and accomplish life-giving goals. These exciting improvements to our building and expansion of our ministry must be protected with a new roof. With your yearly, loyal contributions and our tight budgeting Church of the Reconciler is able to pay for half of the new roof. Will you help us RAISE THE ROOF by donating toward the remaining $100,000?

WHY REPLACING THE ROOF IS IMPORTANT
Your generosity during the Reconciler 2020 Capital Campaign gave new life to this ministry and for the past two years we have been working harder than ever to overcome the 21st century barriers the homeless and low-income face. Church of the Reconciler and Community on the Rise partner to help our community members replace government identifications and gain access to their pandemic stimulus payments. We have helped our community replace 150 state IDs, 220 birth certificates, and 50 social security cards. With this identification they are able to gain employment and apply for housing and other assistance to overcome the consequences of the pandemic. We have helped over 500 community members use the non-filer tax tool or complete their 2020 tax return so that they could receive their economic impact stimulus payments. With these funds our community paid rent and bills, and even transitioned from the streets and into permanent housing.

While helping our community gain access to $1,600,000 in stimulus payments and moving them into the workforce when employers were in desperate need of employees, we have also welcomed them into our newly renovated building when many other places were closed due to the pandemic. These spaces that provide rest, fellowship, recovery encouragement, and spiritual guidance are slowly being threatened by leaks we can no longer patch.
Our renovated sanctuary energizes community involvement in worship, but leaks are limiting our seating capacity and potentially delaying installation of new audio equipment.
Our Fellowship Hall was transformed into Community on the Rise's Community Classroom. This beautiful space welcomes in our community, confirms their worth, and motivates them to complete life-giving goals. However, increasing leaks threaten this space and the ministry taking place here.
In the past year, we created a plastics recycling workshop.  Our community takes trash out of Birmingham's waste stream and makes exciting new products.  So far we have made over $3,000 in sales of our plastic products.  Leaks in other unused areas of the church prevent us from transforming the space into new opportunities for our community.
Your help to RAISE THE ROOF will protect the changes we have already made and open new areas to expand ministries to meet the evolving needs of the homeless and lower income communities of downtown Birmingham. Your donation ensures that we will continue to lead people toward employment and help them access financial resources they need for years to come. You invested $500,000 into our ministry through the Reconciler 2020 Capital Campaign and we created a welcoming space that invites the most vulnerable to embrace their worth and journey toward an abundant life. Over the past two years we tripled your investment, putting $1,600,000 directly into the pockets of our community so that they could overcome the devastating consequences of the pandemic. Will you donate toward the $100,000 needed to RAISE THE ROOF so that we can continue to support our community?
