How do we support our Summerfair mission?

Summerfair's mission is to support our local artists and sometimes that includes other art fairs. On October 3rd, three Summerfair members did just that. At 5am Joe Boschert, Tom Perdiew and Jayne Utter met at the corner of Erie and Edwards to assist the Hyde Park Square Art Show team for set-up. As you can see in the pictures below, it was raining. By show time the sun came out for a few hours before the clouds opened up again. Sales were brisk, making artists and patrons happy. Congrats to the HPSAS folks for another fine event. Also seen at the event were Kelly R, Linda T and Val D.

Special Opportunity - Short Notice!

Help is needed on October 21st to work at the concession booths at Riverbend for the Chris Stapleton concert. Summerfair, as a non-profit, will be paid $10 per hour for each person that works. They need us from 5:00pm-10:00pm. Please contact Jayne by responding to this email if you are interested. As you can see time is short for your response. Jason will need names of the 3 or 4 available by the end of our October 18th meeting. Names will be added to the list on a first come basis.

Throwback newsletter!
4 years ago, Summerfair was downtown at Blink. We lucked out with amazing weather and quality artists. This event has proven that when we get our brand out to the masses, we add to our summer audience. We've seen a younger crowd starting to attend our yearly event.

Please continue to bring in your Summerfair name tags to store at the office. We are in the process of making sure all of the name tags look the same and have an updated Summerfair logo strap.

Mark your calendar! The date & location for our Holiday Party has been set for Friday, December 10, 2021 in the Clubhouse at Jill Conway’s condo. Details will be shared at an upcoming meeting and an E-vite will be sent out closer to the date. Thank you, Jill, for making these arrangements.

Members & Volunteers Wanted:
If you know someone who might be interested in becoming a year-round Green Shirt Member or a volunteer at the Summerfair event, please bring them to a meeting or pass their information along to me at kelly.reilman@gmail.com or talk to me at a meeting.

From Our VP of Awards

The AIA (Award to Individual Artists) applicants have been juried and the winners chosen.  A special thank you to our judges this year.  We had 10 applicants, and four winners were chosen to receive a $5,000 award.  The winners have been invited to the October meeting where they will receive their award, share information about their art, and explain how they will be using these much needed funds.  For our newer members, this award is given to local individual artists to allow them to further their careers in art.  This year's winners will be able to participate in the 2022-2023 Summerfair Select where they will be able to display their art work.  Come meet the artists on October 18, hear their presentation, and see their work as we continue to show our support for the local arts community!

Congratulations to our 2021 AIA winners!
●             Ana England
●             Cynthia Lockhart
●             Lisa Merida-Paytes
●             Mark Wiesner
Information on each of these winners will be posted on our website by October 18th. https://summerfair.org/outreach/aia-award-application/

Work is now beginning on securing this year's Emerging Artists from our local colleges.  These students' art work will be displayed at our Emerging Artist reception on February 11.

Greetings, fellow Green Shirts!

Thank you to everyone who responded to my call for feedback in the last newsletter. We received some suggestions and even some compliments. I have taken them all to the board for discussion. Please keep them coming! And remember, whatever you want me to take to the board does not have to be fair-related. It can pertain to anything having to do with Summerfair Cincinnati and its year-round activities. Email me at dmzucker@outlook.com or call or text me at 513-907-9585.

Happy Fall!

From The Managing Director

On October 1st, I drove to Louisville to attend the St. James Art Fair. This is always a great show to find new artists for Summerfair. I gave cards to 11 artists that I thought would be a good fit. While doing that, I was also able to remind lots of our regular artists that Zapplication will be ready to take applications on December 1st.

Our fiscal year runs from October 1st to September 30. The last year's books are closed, proving we had a very good year. The budget for this year was discussed at the last Executive Board meeting. It is very close to being approved so we can move ahead on 2022.

Our new VP of Operations, Carolyn Green, has been coming into the office once a week to work in our file room. As she organizes some of the paperwork she is also able to familiarize herself with much more of the workings of Summerfair. Her help is much appreciated.

7 months, 3 weeks and 2 days is all we have until Summerfair 2022.

Peace ~ Love ~ Art
