Thank you for expressing interest in Church of the Reconciler at Christ Church’s Local Mission Sunday. It was a joy to visit your church and meet you! As a mission church, COTR relies on conference funding and the service and gifts of generous donors to support our mission of providing worship, hospitality, and paths to abundant life with the homeless & low-income of downtown Birmingham.

Every person is made in God’s image and has talents to share.

Sounds like something we all know, right? But unfortunately the homeless are often treated as people who just need. COTR embraces the homeless & low-income as gifted and valued leaders. They help us lead music & prayer, invite others into addiction recovery, take care of our building, and deliver community mail. Snail Mail is Vital

We offer a free mailing address to anyone who needs it. People get vital resources here: Government identification, social security benefits, food stamps, and stimulus checks. Checking mail also provides a great opportunity to connect, catch up, and pray with our community.

IDs are complicated

Government IDs needed for jobs & housing are hard to maintain on the streets. We help our community replace lost/stolen IDs, Social Security Cards & Birth Certificates. Our sister nonprofit Community on the Rise is a major resource in Birmingham for navigating the complex system of replacing IDs.

Stimulus Check, please

People below the poverty level didn’t automatically get stimulus checks because they weren’t in the IRS tax files. All adult citizens qualify for stimulus checks. We’ve helped over 500 homeless/low-income individuals file & receive payments!

Donations are vital, too!

Church of the Reconciler is fundraising for a new roof. Our roof has been springing leaks that we can no longer patch. This roof must be completely replaced. We are looking for community support for $100,000 (half the cost). Will you be a pillar of our community by donating?

Be a friendly face at the door. Check mail. Hand out a sack lunch. Having people here for these small tasks is a huge help to us. Have a group who can make & deliver sack lunches? We could use some!
