Letter from the Principal

October 14, 2021

 Dear Dixon Families

I am writing today to inform you of some staffing changes at our campus. In the wake of Hurricane Ida, Mr. Jonathan Leggett, Assistant Principal, decided to relocate to Austin, Texas. His last day at ISL was this past Friday, October 8, 2021.

During his time at ISL, Mr. Leggett led his work with enthusiasm; he supported our students, families, faculty, and staff. He demonstrated to be a lifelong learner and contributed to enriching his community. We appreciate all the hard work Mr. Jonathan has done over the past years, and we wish him the best.

Rest assured that his departure will not disrupt our students’ learning or support. We have put the following structure in place with ISL staff members who are qualified and ready to provide this assistance and services:

  • Testing Coordinator: Mr. Forrest Farjadian

  • KEA Gold Assessment: Dr.Tresa Northington

  • MTSS Coordinator: Ms. Awilda Reynoso Melbune

  • New International Associate Teachers Coach Support: Ms. Genesis Rodas

  • Roots Connected Leadership: Ms. Myrna Ramirez, Ms. Awilda Reynoso, Evelyn Berges

If you have any questions, please reach out to me at ralvarado@isl-edu.org.

Atentamente,
Rosa Alvarado

Message from Nurse Office
Greetings Parents,

The fall has been a very busy time here at ISL. Last week we were able to screen all of the kindergarten and first graders for speech and hearing. Due to hurricane Ida, we had to delay the vision screening. This company should
be up and running soon. Dates will be posted as soon as we know.
The Flu shot bus will be coming to ISL DIXON on Friday, October 22nd. This is only for the children that have turned in the registration form that was sent home. If you signed up to have your child receive the flu shot in school please prepare them ahead of time to decrease their anxiety. We are also doing the COLORS COVID tests at the school every Thursday through the LDH. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me via email or phone.

Sincerely,
Kim Carbo RN

Uniform Reminder
Students must be in full
uniform daily.

FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS

We are asking all families to apply for the federally funded free and reduced school meals program. Even if you think you will not qualify, we ask that you apply. This information is critical to our school’s success and support. The percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced price meals is reported to the state Department of Education.

The free and reduced lunch percentages enable public schools to qualify for other grants and funding opportunities to support families.

As you know, meals are currently free for all students, but that will end. When it ends, we want all qualified students to receive free or reduced prices on our high-quality, healthy school meals.

Please take a few minutes to apply today! JUST 4 EASY STEPS!
