Welcome to the October MAPS supporters newsletter!

It's National Care Leavers Week 25 - 31 October and to recognise this week, we wanted to share a story from one of our mentoring pairs, Darren and Michael (pictured right).

Michael (19) arrived in the UK after fleeing conflict in his home country at the age of 14. Having already faced the many challenges of travelling through several countries alone, he arrived in the UK in 2020, alone and knowing nobody. Read more....

MAPS month of wellbeing

We hope that you have been enjoying our daily tips for wellbeing throughout October, to mark World Mental Health Day.

You can also download a copy from our Instagram bio of all 31 tips here...

Online Safety & Cyberbullying

Keeping our young people safe and protecting them from online bullying is a vital part of what we do at MAPS.

We particularly like the resources produced by the NSPCC which you can read here. Over the next few months we'll be sharing some more tips and resources.

BBC Children in Need - Friday 19 November

We are very proud to receive some of funding from BBC Children in Need and its almost time for their big annual appeal on Friday 19 November.

Get your Pudsey ears ready and watch this space!
We're in the customer vote for a Tesco Community Grant! It's a scheme which gives community projects like us grants of up to £1,500. Tesco customers will now vote in stores across Sutton (see below for map) during October, November and December to decide how much funding we get, so please support us next time you shop at Tesco!

We'd love to see selfies of you dropping your token in and this will help us spread the word on social media. If you can, please send a photo to maps@vcsutton.org.uk
Our next round of training will be in January 2022. If you would like to register an expression of interest in training as a volunteer MAPS Mentor, please email maps@vcsutton.org.uk

If you know anyone else who might be interested please pass this information on to them.

We are particularly keen to recruit more male volunteers, for balance amongst our mentor numbers, but, as always, we'd be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a mentor.

And finally, a gentle reminder to all our current mentors that we have a new expenses claim form for volunteers which replaces our old system so please do ensure that you are using the new form. Any problems please contact your MAPS co-ordinator.

Thanks for reading!
