“I’m not missing a minute of this. It’s the revolution!”

Sylvia Rivera

This past weekend the Waco Pride Network celebrated the 4th annual OUT on the Brazos festival! We were thrilled to see so many people from the community come out to support one another and share in the day of celebration of the queer community. While we have a few items to note in this month's newsletter, we ultimately wanted to use this month's letter to share the joy from OUT on the Brazos.

If you were able to attend the event we hope you made some new friends, enjoyed the live entertainment, found some great purchases, and felt free and loved. Thank you again for being a part of the Waco Pride Network and enjoy the photos below!

Board Member Spotlight
For October we will be highlighting our WPN Vice President, JJ Hopkins (purple hat)!

How long have you been on the WPN Board?
  • I started as a volunteer for the Out on the Brazos committee around March of 2019. I was voted onto the board about a year later.
What is your favorite part about being on the WPN board?
  • Knowing that something is happening for the community in Waco. I was born here. I grew up here. My life in high school was much different and way less supported than what we see today. Knowing that my daughter is growing up with some sense of community and support, witnessing that happening, makes me feel all sorts of hope for Waco's future.
What part of the 2025 WPN Vision are you most excited about?
  • The possibility of a physical place for the community to meet. The possibility of a constant clothing exchange for trans and non-binary people, like me, to exchange clothing instead of having to go broke updating wardrobes to fit who we are.
What was your favorite part of this year's OUT on the Brazos?
  • It happened. 2020 was a crazy stressful time, and it was painful to the board to have to cancel the in-person event for the safety of the community no matter what judgment we may have faced. I'm glad people are being responsible enough to get vaccinated and wear masks so that our in-person events can resume.
OUT on the Brazos

The WPN is an all-volunteer nonprofit and its efforts are made possible by those willing to donate one's time, talents, or finances to help make our dreams possible.

Whether our volunteers' contributions include a $5 monthly donation, vendor participation, donation of one's precious time, community support, committee membership, or even liking and sharing social media activity, each volunteer makes a huge difference.

Sign up to volunteer for the Waco Pride Network today. Together, and only together, can we make a difference.

Your donation will not only support the financial aspects of our mission, it will serve as a statement.

Your donation says that you stand against those that wish us to simply go away, to remain silent about who we are.

Your donation says that you stand with this community in its struggle for affirmative acceptance and recognition.

Total Donations FY 2019 - $4,606.82

Total Donations FY 2020 - $1,944.92
