Vol. CXXVIII, Issue XXVII
Thursday, October 14, 2021
Hi. Here's the news.
This week's Crimson Coverage goes over apartment mold, the Black Warrior Film Festival and athletic highlights.

Homecoming week. Sunday marks the beginning of this year’s homecoming festivities. From Roll Tide Run to the Tennessee game, the week is shaping up to be busy. Freshmen and sophomores in particular have the chance to enjoy their first homecoming week on campus.

Coming back strong. Following last weekend’s loss against Texas A&M, Alabama football is heading to Starkville. Mississippi State has improved during the past year, beating Texas A&M on Oct. 2.

  • The SGA partnered with UA athletics to offer students transportation to away games, beginning with this weekend’s game against Mississippi State. Tickets are $5 and will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis.

Hispanic heritage. While the official celebration ends on Friday, there are still opportunities to learn more about Hispanic heritage and support cultural awareness year-round.

Roll Tide, stream Nicki. Bama Barbz went viral this summer, and other UA stan accounts joined the trend. The students behind the phenomenon say it gave them a community at the University.

Supporting LGBTQ students. The UA Safe Zone has a new director. After serving as a graduate assistant in the center for seven years, Lizzie Smith will lead the program.

Free app week. This week, the University is waiving its $40 application fee.

Moldy apartments. Students at The Hub have lodged complaints of mold in their residences, and they claim it’s just getting worse.

From Ålesund to Tuscaloosa. Growing up in Norway, Emilie Øverås never imagined herself at The University of Alabama. Now, she competes for the women’s golf team and enjoys life as a UA student-athlete.

Here are the off-campus goings-on:
  • The University System of Georgia has made several changes to its faculty tenure policy. Some professors say this will increase the dismissal of faculty without due process.

  • Alabama lawmakers are planning to remove racist language from the state’s constitution during the 2022 legislative session. If the changes are approved, Alabama voters will see the revised constitution next November.

  • China is testing thousands of blood samples from the Wuhan region as part of its probe into the origins of COVID-19.

Hot Takes
Wise (read: opinionated) words from Sports Editor Ashlee Woods.

"Red flag tweets are the latest trend on Twitter. Users post a phrase followed by a bunch of red flags. Now, don’t get me wrong, the trend produced some funny tweets. However, just like almost anything on Twitter, it became overused quickly. The tweets also became less funny. Some of the “red flags” aren’t even red flags, just things people disagree with. The trend was cool but only for six seconds like a vine."
