1. Deadline Extended: Yukon Heritage Training Fund
Extended Intake Deadline: Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 5 pm PDT (for projects starting November 1, 2021 or later)
HTF was designed to give Yukon residents the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge in the heritage sector. All training approved through this fund must be directly related to increasing the employability of Yukon’s heritage workers and providing Yukon employers with a better-trained workforce. 2. Archaeology Day with Lecturer Dr. Paulette Steeves

Long Ago Yukon is delighted to announce that Dr. Paulette Steeves will be the first SKYPE lecturer in their 2021-2022 speaker series. She is an Indigenous Paleo-Archaeologist currently on the faculty of Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario as Associate Professor Sociology and a Canada Research Chair in Healing and Reconciliation.
Her topic will be "The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere,” which is also the title of her new book published by the University of Nebraska. Learn more

3. Commissioner of Yukon's Reference Library and Updated Exhibits
The Commissioner's office is happy to launch their reference library, with over 200 books on various topics (Yukon and Canadian First Nations, Yukon, Alaska and Canada, Children’s Books, Awards and Merits, the Crown, Annual Reports from Commissioner, etc.).
The library is open during business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at Taylor House, 412 Main Street, Whitehorse.
They have also updated the James Smith exhibition on the second floor. The Exhibition on the Discovery of Gold on Bonanza Creek is continuing until the end of the year.

4. Upcoming Deadline: Reopening Fund for Heritage Organizations Closes October 20
Application Deadline: October 20, 2021, 2 pm PDT (5 pm EST)
The Museums Assistance Program (MAP) is accepting applications for assistance with ongoing operating costs through the Reopening Fund for Heritage Organizations. Available through the Department of Canadian Heritage, this assistance will help heritage organizations that have felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as they reopen and safely welcome back visitors.
Applications for the 2021 Reopening Fund for Heritage Organizations will be accepted through the new Canadian Heritage Funding Portal. For advice on using this new portal, view the Tips and Tricks guide (also available in French). Learn more and apply

5. Digital Access to Heritage
Application Deadline: November 1, 2021 for projects starting between August 15, 2021, and June 30, 2022 OR March 1, 2022 for projects starting between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2024
The new Digital Access to Heritage component of the Museums Assistance Program (MAP) from the Department of Canadian Heritage provides funding to heritage organizations to digitize collections, develop digital content, and build their capacity in these areas. The component also supports the development and delivery of related training, resources, and services that benefit multiple museums. Learn more and apply

6. Call for Nominations: Order of Yukon, Commissioner's Bravery and Public Service Volunteer Awards
Nomination Deadline: October 29, 2021
The deadline is approaching for submitting nominations for the Order of Yukon and the Commissioner's Bravery and Public Service Volunteer Awards.
- The Order of Yukon is for an individual who has demonstrated high achievement and made an outstanding contribution to society in Yukon - only 3 awards are available each year.
- The Bravery Award is for an individual who has performed an outstanding act of bravery and has responded with great effort, at considerable personal risk in hazardous circumstances to save or safeguard, or attempt to save or safeguard, the life of one or more persons.
- The Public Volunteer Service Award is for an individual who has made a significant volunteer contribution to Yukon business, academics, arts, culture or society outside of their regular employment.

7. Call for Applications: Digital Museums Canada Large & Medium Investment Streams
Application Deadline: October 27, 2021
Administered by the Canadian Museum of History with the financial support of the Government of Canada, the Digital Museums Canada (DMC) investment program invests in online projects by Canadian museums and heritage organizations, helping them build digital capacity and share stories and experiences with people everywhere. Funding is available for bilingual online projects, modest or ambitious, that provide an interpretation of the subject matter and content as well as an engaging user experience.

9. Archives 101: Archival Practice for Indigenous Organizations

This workshop will be of interest to Tribal/First Nations Government administrators, archivists, Indigenous community members or cultural memory keepers, students, or anyone working in the field of archival or heritage practice. It will provide participants with an introduction to archival theory and best practices that they will be able to use on a daily basis.
Workshop participants will learn how to create a solid foundation for developing their archives program and learn about the appraisal and practical management of archival records and cultural knowledge. They will learn how to process and provide access to records created on different media formats (textual records, audio-visual, sound recordings and electronic records).
