2nd Annual Provincial Invitational Walking Soccer Tourney

Attention PGOSAns.....On Saturday October 23rd, VanIsle Walking Soccer - an affiliate of PGOSA - will be holding its long-delayed 2nd Annual provincial Invitational Walking Soccer Tourney at Arbutus Meadows Arena in Nanoose.

We started with 8 players back in March 2016 as Canada's first organized League. The sport has grown by leaps and bounds across the Province since then with the latest organized league starting play in Victoria in August 2021.

This Tourney will feature both a Competitive Tourney and a Relaxed Play series of games.
Teams will be coming from Victoria (2), Nanaimo (2) and your very own VanIsle squad looking to capture the Golden Boot Trophy---after losing in the Final to UBC Masters in 2020.  Sadly, Covid has discouraged Mainland teams from participating this year.

Games start at 10 with a Round Robin set of games and then the Playoffs will start around 12:30...the Tourney will end at approx. 2:00.
Come cheer on your PGOSA squad....we will appreciate the support.

If you would like to inform yourself on the Rules or look at feature pics from the 2020 Tourney just head to www.vanislewalkingsoccer.org

And, please note, we are always looking for new players who appreciate a light aerobic workout in a coed environment with lots of fun.....details on the PGOSA Calendar and how to join.

Cheers

Update on Long Time Member

Many you know Bernice Diakow who was the “face” of registration for PGOSA for 26 years at the arenas and at the Community Park in Parksville during the spring and summer. Bernice stepped down from her membership position about two years ago as her health was declining and she was finding her responsibilities too much leading to confusion.  Unfortunately, her health has further declined the last couple of years to the point where she is now in an extended care facility in Nanaimo after being assessed at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital.

I’m sure she is missing her PGOSAN friends and would love to see some that were close to her and “tried” to assist with the many tasks Bernice did for PGOSA.  We all know she was very independent and often would refuse help when offered!

Anyway…..I’m sure she would appreciate a visit from her closest cohorts or an encouraging note or card if you are not able to drive to south Nanaimo. Currently she is at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence, 100 Eleventh St.  Nanaimo, B.C.  V9R 6R6 Phone: 250-754-7711

Visiting Hours/Guidelines - Times are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm   Check in at front desk before proceeding to patient’s room.  Must show your COVID Passport.

Attention all Activity Managers:

In keeping with PGOSA's goal of providing safe activities for its members, PGOSA is offering the opportunity for Activity Managers and their designate to attend an Emergency First-Aid with CPR "A" course, paid for by PGOSA.
Contact
Doug Williams to register and confirm who from your activitiy will be taking advantage of this opportunity.
Date: Saturday, November 6.  Location: Bradley Centre

If you are a “card shark” then we have experienced  players you will enjoy playing .  Cost is $2.00 weekly drop-in fee and an initial $5.00 to join Bradley Center.  Refreshments are served -- this is a great social opportunity for those who like to play cards as well as an opportunity to keep those brain neurons firing and growing!  Hope to a few more come out!  More information by emailing Jim.
