From the Principal's Desk

How time has flown for our Grade 12 learners.  Their finals start next week after 12 years of preparation.  I wish every one of them all the best and trust they will find the balance in the preparation and rest needed for such an endeavour.

This term will feel a lot shorter than the previous three as we enter the end of the year assessment period in a few weeks time.  I once again urge parents to be the emotional cheerleading support your children need at this time.  They need very little encouragement to get on with their studies as they have a lot of personal drive already.  They need your support in providing a good environment for study, the support in ensuring technology does not interfere with learning and that they have healthy snacks and meals as well as exercise as part of their programme.

This term, we are also fortunate that our sports department has put excellent coaches in place to prepare for matches.  Alongside this, our societies and service groups are up and running again.  What a wonderful opportunity for everyone to participate in school life and spend some time as part of a team.

I wish everyone a happy final term of 2022.

Michael Gates

Sports Update 30 September 2021

Welcome back to school. There are only 4 weeks of sport before the exams start. Please encourage your daughters to attend their sessions. We will be offering a very limited sports programme during the exam weeks. Please note that sports attendance during the exams is not compulsory.

Good luck to all our parents and staff who will be participating in the Cape Town Marathon on Sunday 17 October.

Highlights from this week's update:

  • On-the-Move & Tennis news
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics, Road Cycling and Sailing news
  • Three of our learners took part in the South African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships on 6 October in Pretoria. Katherine McCree (Grade 10) is the South African Rhythmic Gymnastics Level 9 Champion for 2021. She placed first overall. Tamsin de Villiers (Grade 10) and Thanaa Phillips (Grade 8) also both received medals and did very well.
Jade Skye Smith (Grade 10) attended Cape Town auditions for singing for the IATS (International Arts Talent Showcase).  She was successful in getting a “call back” for both singing and modelling and on 26 September she performed IATS in front of 7 international judges. She received a “yes” from all 7 of them and has been given the opportunity to perform in New York City in July 2022 at IMTA. A few months ago she also released a song ‘Insecure by Jade Skye’. Congratulations and well done! View her back a buddy page.
