Congratulations to Mr Peter Turner, former Director of Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong and CEnet Board Member who has received the 2021 Br Kelvin Canavan FMS Catholic School Leadership Award. The prestigious award recognises teachers who have moved into education administration in New South Wales.

The award recognises Mr Turner’s contribution to Catholic education through work as an advocate, negotiator and architect of authentic, effective Catholic schools and systems at the diocesan, state, national and international levels. Value of Shared Services - Video Conference Service as an Exemplar
As a clear example of the value that a shared services organisation can provide, the importance to member dioceses of the CEnet Zoom video conferencing service is evident in the consolidated usage statistics for the July - September quarter with:
- 873,261 Zoom meetings held,
- 327,650,000 meeting minutes hosted,
- 5,460,818 hours of Zoom meetings hosted,
- an average of 13,400 staff participating in Zoom meetings daily.

This service has been a key enabler of teaching and learning during lockdowns associated with the Covid-19 pandemic and has been delivered at a cost that reflects the buying power of the CEnet membership.
The service has proven remarkably reliable given such high usage and was able to scale very quickly in response to the significant uplift in demand.

Farewell to a Long-term Collaborator
|
|
After 12 years with Catholic Education Office, Diocese of Wollongong, Tim Davey, Team Leader: Applications & Data Integrations, ICLT completed his final week with the Diocese last week.
During his time with the Diocese of Wollongong, Tim was seconded to CEnet twice resulting in strong collaborative relationships within our team.

Tim recently noted that his time with CEnet enabled him to gain an understanding of the breadth and complexity of the work CEnet does to support Member Dioceses.
We wish Tim every success in his next professional endeavour.

CeSIS and CeFMS Update
The CEnet Member Dioceses CeSIS and CeFMS rollout is continuing with 590 portals and 406 schools migrated to Ancestry.
Eleven of the participating Member Dioceses have completed the CeSIS rollout and five dioceses have also completed the CeFMS portion of their rollout.

This shared services rollout is significant in its scale and success, and is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the CEnet member community.

Microsoft Minecraft Series
The second workshop in the Catholic Learning Online Microsoft Minecraft (Education Edition) series was held on 7 October at 4.15 pm AEST, with participants from across the CEnet membership experiencing a highly engaging workshop.
If you missed the first two sessions, its not too late to join. Workshop recordings are available once registered, so there is the opportunity to catch up.
The 4-part course, is exploring how Minecraft: Education Edition supports teaching and learning through a game-based interface that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an immersive environment where the only limit is the learner’s imagination.
Andrew Balzer (Microsoft Learning Delivery Specialist) provides participants with the opportunity to learn skills together and practice the skills demonstrated in the sessions.

iPad Assistive Features: Reaching All Learners
On Thursday 14 October, the CLO Working Group facilitated an iPad Assistive Features workshop, with members of the Apple Education Team.
The workshop provided staff from six CEnet member dioceses with an opportunity to learn about tools and resources from Apple that allow all students to create, communicate, personalise and explore in new and powerful ways.
During this webinar participants:
- Explored the powerful assistive features built-in to iPad that can complement each learners’ vision, hearing, motor skills and learning needs
- Experienced how with iPad, students can learn in ways that meet their own specific needs

Google Certified Trainer Course
Google is offering a Google Certified Trainer course to help develop future trainers. The course is being run by Deploy Learning, and is funded by Google so that there is zero cost to participants.
The Google Certified Trainer course focuses on the skills and knowledge required to effectively train other educators, and while it obviously focuses on Google as the foundation for this course, the training skills developed by participants will be of use for all kinds of training situations and tools.
This four week advanced level online course will begin on November 1 2021 and will focus on developing skills for creating content, giving great presentations, producing online tutorials and developing facilitator skills for leading Google Workspace for Education workshops, and much more.
If you or any of your colleagues in schools are interested in furthering skills in this area, there are limited places available, so the offer seeks to attract people who are genuinely interested in achieving their Trainer Certification.
Participants must have a Level 1 certificate to apply, although Level 1 and 2 is required to go on to become a trainer.

Stem and Social Innovation Workshops
In this series of workshops participants will explore how they might design powerful transdisciplinary social innovation projects, driven by STEM and underpinned by the Google digital ecosystem that activates learner agency in a hybrid environment. The processes, tools and resources shared are adaptable to both a primary and secondary context.
Participants who attend the three webinars (or watch the recordings) and complete the reflection, will receive a micro credential in designing STEM and Social Innovation Projects.

Thriving in a Hybrid Classroom Series
In this series of workshops participants will explore how they might design learning that helps us thrive in the hybrid classroom where technology is built into the fabric of learning whether in face-to-face mode or in remote learning. There will be sharing of multiple pedagogical approaches, from direct instruction to help learners develop core understandings deeply, to inquiry driven projects where learners apply this deep knowledge to authentic inquiries.
Participants who attend the three webinars (or watch the recordings) and complete the reflection, will receive a micro credential in Hybrid Learning Design.

Teacher Librarian Professional Learning Community Conference 2022
The Teacher Librarian Professional Learning Community (TLPLC) is a not for profit support network and their annual conference, provides a forum for teacher librarians and school library staff in Catholic and Independent schools in NSW and the ACT to share expertise, learn new skills.
The 2022 TLPLC conference will be held at Rydges Mount Panorama Hotel, Bathurst on 26 and 27 May 2022.
The theme of the Conference is Racing towards new frontiers: Teacher Librarians steering to success.
Teacher Librarians and Library staff who are interested in attending this conference can register interest on the TLPLC website to see how they can become involved in the conference and to keep up to date with all details as they become available.

Book of the Week
The CEnet Member Dioceses ACEN eBook Consortium, with the assistance of Lisa Nash and Saba Maniar from the Digital Learning and Library Services in Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta, provide the book of the week feature for students and staff who have access to the SORA eBook Library.
Each week, two reading recommendations for eBooks or audio books, with age guidance are published for primary school students and high school students and to make sure that no-one is left out, there is a recommendation for staff too.
