Dear Families,
Our students at Parkview are fortunate to have 1:1 iPads to use for learning at home and at school. All students in grades 1-5 currently have devices. Kindergarteners are using iPads at school during part of their day and will have the opportunity to bring them home later this fall. The iPad can be a great learning tool for students. Is it important to teach and supervise our elementary students about how to use these devices appropriately both at school and at home.

Parkview teachers have been reviewing the District 196 iPad user agreement with students this week. Students are responsible for using these devices for learning, to take care of their device, and to make responsible choices. Our children learn what responsible choices are by having conversations with adults to understand what that means. I encourage all families to review the iPad policy and expectations at the link below. You will also find information at the bottom of that page with questions to guide family conversations.  https://www.district196.org/academics/digital-learning/11-ipad-parent-resources/beginning-of-the-year-resources

When students do not follow the guidelines for appropriate use with their iPad, the consequence may be loss of privilege for using the device for a period of time, restitution, and disciplinary action in accordance to the District 196 Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Thank you for your partnership and support to keep our students safe and informed when they are using technology.

Sincerely,
Nicole Garcia, Principal

Parkview Read-a-Thon Fundraiser: Oct 18

We will be kicking off the fall fundraiser - a Read-a-Thon, on Monday, October 18th!

Unlike in past years, we have decided to host an in-house fundraiser which will allow Parkview to keep and utilize 100% of the proceeds raised.

The Read-a-Thon will begin on Monday October 18th and end on Friday, October 29th.

Our school-wide goals for the fundraiser are:
$30,000 raised and 250,000 minutes read

All money raised will benefit our Parkview students in some of the following areas:
1. In-house "field trips" rather than transporting students to off-site locations
2. STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) activities and materials for classroom stations
3. New library books in Spanish and for early readers

Your child will be bringing home a packet of information about this event on Friday, but the links here will also guide you to the information. It includes reading record sheets and further details about collecting donations during the event. (Remember - all donations made to the Parkview PTO are tax deductible!)

Please read the Get Started materials and then visit our donation site.

THANK YOU for being a part of this event!
