Our exhibition, Walking to a Different Beat, is extended to Saturday, October 23.

Last week was especially busy in Harlem - all across it. Even Madonna and Jon Batise were rocking in Harlem and roaming the streets like locals.

Our Harlem Arts Stroll on Saturday October 9 got some media coverage.

Local News channel WPIX did a great story on the stroll.

And must importantly, our collaboration with UPTOWN PHOTO WALK was amazing- nothing like people roaming and photographing the beauty of Harlem.

So join us November 6 - it's a Saturday from 1pm to 6pm, please register here to attend it. Please follow us on Instagram @harlemartsstroll. This is been a community of Harlemites and others coming together to make this event happen. Truly appreciative for the support and collaboration.

And finally, we kick off our HOLIDAY SEASON by launching an E-GIFT CARD for buying art from us, yes, this early as several of you asked. And we partner with our retail store, CALABAR IMPORTS to bring holiday gifts to you - we suggest you shop early this year - there really are supply issues globally. And SHOP with us in two ways

If you are able, come up to Harlem to see us as well as the other galleries and other types of art. We welcome you but remember New York City now requires you show evidence of vaccination to gain entry, so carry it with you.

CALL FOR ART:

BLACK RESILLIENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY
curated by Atim Annette Oton

Inquire at info@calabargallery.com

The impact of Covid-19 brought an awareness of the fragility of Black life and the urgent call for an examination through art of state of the black community globally.

This exhibition of Black Artists (African, Caribbean and African American Artists) captures work that exposes Black Resilience and Sustainability from the framework of the fragility of life and time, nature and the environment, rural and urban to basic human rights and the demands for change, joy and freedom.

Black Artists live and work in communities on the periphery, mostly ignored. They produce works that  need a re-entering from extraordinary to every day in the ways they dive deeply into ideas, and innovatively create.

The exhibition is scheduled for the Spring of 2022. To be considered, please send 3-5 images of work with details: title, year, medium, size and price responding to the call, a short bio, Website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to info@calabargallery.com

Deadline: November 30, 2021
CALABAR GALLERY is pleased to participate in BLACK FINE ART MONTH in OCTOBER.

Black Fine Art Month is a global celebration of the Black Art aesthetic, an annual recognition of artists, innovators, collectors, curators and those vested in the Black Art tradition, and an opportunity to commemorate these contributions through art programming. The celebration lies at the intersection of the past, present, and future of Black Art, and affords us a moment to toast the bold gallerists and esteemed art purveyors who revere the aesthetic, drive the value; and invest in artists who are making a cultural impact.
Visit blackfineartmonth.com for a list of participating artists, institutions and leaders as well as a full calendar of events.

CALL FOR ARTISTS:
HARLEM AND NEW YORK ARTISTS
ROCKY MOUNT AND NORTH CAROLINA ARTISTS

Exhibition Theme: Black Empowerment and Community: Migration from the North to South

With the launch of Harlem Brew South, Celeste Beatty expanded Harlem Brewing Company (Harlem Brew) from Harlem to Rocky Mount, North Carolina and in some ways participating in the reverse of the great migration of Black Americans who once came from the south to the north. Since the 1970s, the migration from the north to south had been the norm and has reversed a 55 year trend of Black migration and both have been about opportunity. This is a return to a heartland of heritage, economic opportunities and cultural connections. It marks the celebration of craft, community and equity.

Curator Atim Annette Oton of Calabar Gallery in Harlem is seeking work from Artists in New York and North Carolina for the inaugural exhibition at Harlem Brew South Gallery Space (HBS Gallery Space) to honor and celebrate the transition and movement of Black people from the North to South while exploring the significance of Black Empowerment and Community in the United States. The 2022 Spring Exhibition deals with Black Empowerment through collective work and collaboration, from family and friends bonding to create and participate in economic development. It celebrates possibilities and opportunities in community development, dynamic change and progress.

To be considered, please send 3-5 images of work with details: title, year, medium, size and price responding to the call, a short bio,
Website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to info@calabargallery.com
