The humble cabbage often gets overlooked when people talk about delicious or exciting vegetables, but it's a staple in so many cultures with a multitude of preparations. Our standby cabbage dish is quickly sauteed ribbons with some leeks or onions, Chinkiang black vinegar, and a splash of toasted sesame oil, but other combinations of vinegars and oils work well too; meanwhile, my dad insists that a holiday meal isn't complete without cabbage rolls. Marvellous Edibles has sauerkraut nearly year round, and Alchemy Pickle Company also brings in curtido and kimchi. From napa to sweetheart to savoy to flat cabbages, there's an array of textures and flavours to suit any preference. And if you have leftovers? Colcannon and bubble and squeak make comforting fall meals. What's your favourite way to eat cabbage?

We've been getting questions about how long our market stays open and the answer is: year round! Keep an eye out on our website, Instagram, and this newsletter for more details soon.

Thanks for continuing to wear your masks while you are in the market. The narrow walkways of our market can make distancing difficult, but leaving your masks on helps all of our community be supported and safe.

Vendor Spotlight

Earth and City was making delicious, plant-based food long before fast food companies started paying attention. With a focus on whole, seasonal, gluten-free ingredients, Earth and City makes a range of products from sweet macaroons to savoury millet and bean burgers. Their green smoothies and 100Km PB+J smoothies are breakfast favourites for many of our busy vendors! Follow them at @earthandcity.

Online Ordering and Pick Up

Many of our vendors have set up online ordering systems; you can find the links above through their websites. This is a great way to make sure you get your pies while keeping your shopping time down. Please note that some vendors are using our order pick up service, in collaboration with the Toronto Farmers’ Market Collective, at the market entrance next to the splash pad on Walkway 5.

Orders can be picked up at the pickup depot between 8 am and 12 pm. Please make sure to confirm your pickup location when you place your orders; some vendors are doing pick ups at their stalls.
