A Year in Review at Chigamik
This past year has been a year of change like no other. Like the rest of the global community, we responded to the rapidly changing reality of the COVID-19 pandemic and the implications it had on our daily lives.
This global crisis has generated a great deal of anxiety, stress and uncertainty, and a range of challenges for members of our community. However, we've also seen a global outpouring of support, love and spirit.
We invite you to take a look at some of our accomplishments over the past year. While we face new challenges ahead, our staff, board, volunteers and partners will continue to work passionately to help create a healthy future for everyone in our community.
Merci, Miigwetch, Thank you.
Élise Robitaille, CSC Chigamik CHC Board President

Chigamik launched it's Get a Pulse campaign to the community during Community Health and Wellbeing week.
From October 4 to 10, Community Health Centres across the province hosted a week of special events to help celebrate Community Health and Wellbeing week. The theme of this year’s week was Building Equitable Futures.
During Community Health and Wellbeing Week, Chigamik launched its “Get a Pulse” campaign to the community – an initiative to help build a more equitable and sustainable future. The campaign provides members of the community with the opportunity to learn about the environmental, financial and health benefits of pulses, while also having the opportunity to register for a “Pulses Kit” at no cost, along with educational videos and recipes. Chigamik Honours the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

A Sacred Fire was held at the Community Health Hub in hounour of the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
September 30th marks the annual Orange Shirt Day, which coincided with the first-ever National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This special day honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.
Chigamik Community Health Centre, in partnership with the North Simcoe Youth Wellness Hub, MegaMindful Living, Tiny Forest Academy, Beausoleil Island National Historic Site of Canada and the Georgian Bay Métis Council honoured the National day for Truth and Reconciliation with a series of educational events for staff throughout the day and for the community in the evening.
“This day is very near and dear to our organization, and is an opportunity to further educate ourselves and our community on the history of residential schools in Canada and their lasting impact on our Indigenous communities. Georgian Bay has played a very important geographical role within our history, and has been home for many of our strong, resilient Indigenous communities. To truly show our love and support for our local Indigenous communities, we believe this event is a good first step as we all work together towards truth and reconciliation."
~Chigamik’s Indigenous committee
Activities celebrated at Chigamik included a drumming circle, sacred fire and tobacco-tie workshop. Activities offered along the Rotary Trail included an Orange shirt walk led by Greg Garratt and the Georgian Bay Métis Council, art activities and storytelling hosted by Tiny Forest Academy, and hot and cold tea provided by Megamindful Living. The evening concluded with a moment to honour the lost children of residential schools and their families as the sun set on Georgian Bay. Thank you to Chigamik's Indigenous Committee and our community partners for organizing this special day.

North Simcoe Ontario Health Team
On September 18, the province of Ontario announced the approval of eight new Ontario Health Teams (OHT), of which the North Simcoe OHT (NSOHT) was one. There are four formal alliance partners in the NSOHT - Georgian Bay General Hospital, CSC Chigamik CHC, the North Simcoe Family Health Team and Wendat Community Programs – which will serve patients in Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay Township, Tiny Township and Christian Island. OHTs are part of a new approach to healthcare that brings together providers as one collaborative team. Working together, the NSOHT team aims to improve the patient experience and ease transitions between care providers, as well as have a shared patient record and one care plan for patients.
