Some Very Good Citizen Action

The KCA would like to recognize the admirable hard work of our neighbors who have spent many hours cleaning up Pūlehu Road starting at the Kula Highway going down past the Central Maui dump.  PŪLEHU POSSE started as Mark and Lora White’s idea because of the large amounts of garbage ending up on the side of Pūlehu Road during the COVID shut down.

Last November Mark posted on the Nextdoor App looking for others who wanted to help. On that first Saturday of December, it was just Mark and his friend Fred. With more notice for January, Pūlehu Posse gained several new volunteers.  Within a few more months they had T-shirts and an Instagram page.

Council member Yuki Lei Sugimura joined and provided an invaluable county connection. Pukalani Superette became a sponsor. Some Kula Community Associations also joined in the cleanup efforts.

Pūlehu Posse has now combined forces with Malama Maui Nui to increase the amount of trash collected each month, more than the normal 600+ lbs.  It has broadened the volunteer base and has really made a difference!  Please join them for the next clean up at 7:30 am, Saturday, November 6th off of Kula Highway where it intersects with Pūlehu Road.  For more information about volunteering, please email Jordan Hocker volunteerpulehu@gmail.com.

Pūlehu Posse, mahalo from your community.
