Dear Avila Community
Next week the Class of 2021 will be graduating. Their resilience, commitment and good humour during such an unusual senior school experience has been extraordinary. As individuals they have adapted to all the challenges presented and as a cohort, have exhibited a keen sense of community spirit and genuine connectedness throughout their time at Avila. They have journeyed with us, dared themselves to do, opened their hearts and hands and shown that we really are better together. This year they have been the light for each other and a beacon of brightness and hope for all the year levels. While they will be missed, they will always be part of the rich tapestry that is Avila, just as Avila will be part of them too. We wish them well as they prepare for their VCE exams and finalise VCAL and VET competencies and we remind them to reach out to their teachers and wellbeing staff in the coming weeks.
Tonight we look forward to celebrating our sporting stars in the annual Sports Awards Night. This year it is a premiere virtual event, with special guest, Olympic Kayaker, Warwick Draper. It is sure to be another great community celebration, so don't miss out - log on to our youtube channel at 7pm to be part of it all.
Today is St Teresa of Avila's Feast Day. Our patron saint and namesake's legacy and spirit continues to live on and shine brightly in our small corner of the world. We remember St Teresa for her faith filled life and dedication to teaching others about how to pray and having a relationship with God. One of the first female Doctors of the Church, she was a mystic, writer and a poet and we draw strength from her eloquence: Let nothing disturb you...if you have God you will want for nothing.
Thanks to all members of the Avila community for your ongoing support of each other and the broader community.
Stay safe.

Faith & Mission
Weekly Prayer
Lord, grant that I may always allow myself
to be guided by You,
always follow Your plans,
and perfectly accomplish Your Holy Will.
Grant that in all things,
great and small,
today and all the days of my life,
I may do whatever You require of me.
Help me respond to the slightest prompting of Your Grace,
so that I may be Your trustworthy instrument for Your honour.
May Your Will be done in time
and in eternity by me, in me, and through me.
Amen

The Arts
Creativity at Avila
Year 9 Studio Arts students have been working at home manipulating papers (wrapping paper, magazines and pages from old text books). They used quilling and coiling techniques to create either a purposeful or decorative artform.
Year 12 students held a mini exhibition of their final year works in the Avila art studios, displaying an exciting array of diverse creative mediums and expression.

Congratulations to Avila College Teacher, Carla Catanzariti, who co-wrote the text book Ecco! Senior which won the 2021 Educational Publishing Award in the Secondary Student Resource category.
The judges said the book was authentic, meaningful and carefully written; building students’ confidence as they progress through the course. Congratulations Carla!
