Hiiiii everyone!

I write this, beaming, from a sunny spot in the Google NYC office. I’ve been here all week on a little escape back to the city -- I’ve been staying at The Ludlow (for the bathtubs, of course), enjoying in-person time with my coworkers, and romping around the Lower East Side. My cup is FULL and I have a feeling I’ll be riding the high from this trip for a while.

I didn’t just come here to live like a NYC Princess though, I actually came in for a really exciting work event. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to run a workshop during this year’s Mental Health Conference at Google (it was on Wednesday) and I knew I wanted to facilitate from the office.

This was a really exciting work milestone for me, especially because I applied to host a session on a complete whim. In fact I think I was procrastinating writing some emails when I stumbled upon the call-for-submissions, and I thought what the hell.

The workshop proposal I put together was about Brightsiding at work. It’s been such an insane year for me and I thought it could be interesting to crystalize a framework for getting to The Brightside - so I put some ideas together and threw my hat in the ring.

I was tickled when I got the email saying that I made it in and the workshop was on the roster. I spent the past month or so putting my content together, and I am so proud of how it came out (Sam designed it of course, and it was the deck of my literal dreams).

In the workshop, I explained what Brightsiding means (in case you missed the 101, it’s here), discussed the difference between toxic and non-toxic positivity, shared my framework for getting to The Brightside, led an activity to better understanding of what’s affecting you at work, and created a “toolkit” to take that information and … well, get to The Brightside. And I think it went really well!

I haven’t felt butterflies like I’ve felt this week in a long time. I’ve casually shared this project with a few co-workers over the past year, but this was the first time I shared The Brightside more “formally” at Google. And it felt really, really empowering to share what I’ve been working so hard on behind the scenes and stick the landing with a workshop. I’m excited to tweak it based on initial feedback and see where else I can take this.

Shameless plug: if you are someone who plans work offsites or team meetings, I’d LOVE to come run this for your team! Shoot me an email.

But most importantly, I want to express my genuine gratitude to everyone who continues to open these emails and cheer me on. It feels like an incredible privilege to be able to share my journey with this incredible community, and your support gives me the courage to branch out into new things like my workshop. So from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for being here.

Just one today, and I promise, it DESERVES a standalone spot. Is anyone familiar with the late, great, DoDo Magazine of the mid 2010s? I stumbled upon an old copy at a used bookstore the other day, and found their digital copy of their Issue Zero. I recommend putting an hour of “do not schedule time” on your calendar, making yourself a cup of coffee and INDULGING IN THIS EDITORIAL GOLD!

My coach-turned-friend (Imari) that I worked with earlier this year just opened up sign-ups for his group coaching program The Guild. There are two sessions - one focused on honing your vision (where you wanna go, what’s in the way) and another on virtues (how do you develop the mindset of who you’re trying to become?). I worked with him 1-1, but this sounds like a great way to meet cool, motivated people from all over the world and get your head on straight before 2022. Both start next week!

I’m pretty obsessed with this Rachel Comey . I’m dying to get back to Boston and visit Ouimillie, which I think about weekly!
