Principal's Message

Good Morning McGaugh Families,

The McGaugh Carnival is scheduled for this weekend! There’s tons of excitement throughout the community! Thank you again to the parents who have already signed up to volunteer.   Again, if you're interested in volunteering, it’s not too late.  Many of our teachers have sign-up sheets on the door.  You can also reach out to McGuagh's PTA to sign up.

Thank you again for all your support in every area that makes McGaugh such a successful school. I continue to need your support to decrease student tardiness.  Academic achievement and overall student success is directly related to attendance. It’s important to know, it takes students quite a bit of time to recover from the feeling of walking into class late. It’s the same feeling adults may feel when we walk into a class lecture or work meeting late. Remember, if your child is late by just five minutes, over the course of a week, that is 25 minutes of instructional time lost a week.

Here are a few steps to take:

  1.  Have a conversation with your child(ren).
  2. Set a goal to be on time for the next ten school days.
  3. Determine the actions to support your goals:
    1. laying out clothes the night before school
    2. packing lunches/snacks the night before
    3. setting an alarm clock five minutes earlier
  4. Then, when you reach your goal as a family, which I know our Sea Lions will; reward yourselves with a game night, sweet treat, or time doing something special.
  5. Lastly, send me your stories of how you met this goal and the reward time so that I can share the success stories out to families, staff, and our student body.

Remember:
  • McGaugh is a closed campus after 7:55 AM.
  • All students who arrive on campus after the 7:55 AM tardy bell must check into the main office and receive the pink-tardy pink slip.
  • Students must have a pink-tardy slip to enter class after 7:55 AM.
  • Students have the opportunity to earn RAH Bux when all students are in their seats before the tardy bell rings.

Here are a few things you should know about:

Parent Conferences | Dates: 10/18, 10/19, 10/21, 10/22, & 10/25
  • During your child’s conferences,  teachers will share progress reports which will highlight student strengths and areas of growth to work toward for the final report card in December.
Great ShakeOut | Thursday, October 21st
  • Earthquakes may happen anytime and almost anywhere in California.
  • Thursday we are joining millions of people that are practicing earthquake safety!
  • Feel free to frontload your child that they will be participating in a drill that has us practice safety procedures.  The school day will look different as they follow adult directions and practice collective safety on campus.

Attention FIFTH GRADE PARENTS!

Did you know there is an incredible 100+ page yearbook put together each year by a group of volunteer parents for the promoting class, reflecting on all 6 years the students spent at McGaugh? It is such a treasured memento for these students!

Do you like to take pictures of your student throughout the year and reflect on their growth? Do you like to organize photos and use your creative mind to design an awesome collector’s book for your kid? If YOU are interested in participating, we are looking for a group of 5th grade parents who would like to put together this year’s yearbook for the 2022 graduating class!

Please email Christine Barhoma if you’re interested!
