  Becky's Comment

Welcome to the November 2021 edition of smoke signals

Now that Daylight Saving Time has ended we have an ambitious winter program of RYA shorebased, Powerboat Instructor, STCW and QNUK courses planned.

Furthermore with Christmas fast approaching we also have gift vouchers available, add any amount or buy a full course as a gift. Not sure which course to gift? Email our expert team and they can advise you on what is best.
  RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased

The is an advanced navigation course aimed at Blue Water sailors, anyone crossing the Atlantic (or any) Ocean, Super Yacht Deck Officers and Commercial Yacht Skippers planning on operating more than 150NM from a safe haven.

For leisure sailors this is the most advanced course in the RYA scheme and will give you more knowledge to sail safely to some of the worlds most stunning blue water destinations. The RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased course is a step towards the full RYA/MCA Ocean Yachtmaster.

Sailors Superstitions & Fish Wives Tales
In this feature we examine a well known sailing myth or meteorological lore.

"A SHIP’S CAT BRINGS GOOD LUCK"

While the black cat is a symbol of halloween and witchcraft to some and a sign of bad luck in many cultures, the tradition among British and Irish sailors was that a cat on board the ship would bring good luck. As such the “Ship’s Cat,” was well looked after.

There is some logic to this superstition...........click for more
