With the season change, we are thinking of all the changes the last few years have wrought. We are grateful for the harvest in the annual gardens and the height of the trees in the forest garden and new native woodland.
It's very clear to us now that the abundance comes from all the years of attention to regenerating the relationships in the life below and above the soil.
There are so many more creatures sharing the land: birds, insects, bees, butterflies, frogs, lizards, mice, stoats, and one cheeky red squirrel who showed up in time for ripe hazelnuts. It hopped right up the greenhouse door, so we got a good look at each other. Despite the nuts it was off to eat, we were delighted to see this beautiful native mammal finding its way up the hill from the woods below.
We are equally grateful that the work of restoring an ecosystem has also generated many human relationships. We really experienced this when we put out a call for a meitheal to our past permaculture participants. We hadn't had many wwoofers this year and so the big boost of help was amazing, but even more of a boost was the fun and stories shared over the weekend.
Watching new connections form between people is a particular joy for us at Carraig Dúlra. As many in the world suffer alienation and fragmentation under the current system, we hope to continue to be a part of regenerative systems that restore the connection to nature and each other.
Mike and I are just back from a trip around permi friends and their PDC connected projects around the North West of Ireland. Thank you to all that hosted us for an hour, a meal, a night or two! Not all are public facing but you might like to check out those that are:

Some of these folk are just starting their regenerative land journey others are much farther along. Knowing some of what's ahead as they pay loving attention to their relationship to land and people is quite akin to our experience of being young grandparents over the last two and a half years.
Along with being baby elders (something I have moved into with my Cailleach podcast), we rather like being permi grandparents sharing with an encouraging following generations in their earth care, people care and fair shares work and journeys.
