Watch Now: Bobbi Gibb Statue Unveiled

The 26.2 foundation along with the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, Startline Brewery and Marty's Fine Wine's hosted a ceremony to recognize the accomplishments of Bobbi Gibb and unveiled a statue that will be on display during the Boston Marathon route.

"Bobbi Gibb, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon, is sharing her lifetime wish – to sculpt a life-sized statue of a female runner and have it placed on the Boston Marathon course.

“My hope when I began working on the sculpture was to create something that captures the power of the human spirit as well as providing inspiration for all who look to take on the challenge of running 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston,” said Gibb.

“We believe it is long past time to recognize the Boston Marathon’s great women runners,” said 26.2 Foundation President Tim Kilduff. “The fact that Boston’s first woman runner is also an artist makes this unveiling absolutely unique and appropriate.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Bobbi Gibb in person and Boston Marathon champions Bill Rodgers, Sara Mae Berman, Amby Burfoot and Jack Fultz."

Working Together for Change: Active Bystander Workshop for Adults and High School Youth

Thursday, Nov 4, 2021, 6:30-8:30 pm ET

Active Bystander Skills Training for Adults & High School age youth on Zoom

A free community workshop sponsored by Hopkinton Freedom Team and presented by True Story Theater

An active bystander is someone who not only witnesses an offensive or threatening situation, but also speaks up or takes steps to defuse that situation, or keep it from escalating.

Learn how to become a more effective active bystander! Whether we’re at work, school, family gatherings, or on social media, we all witness offensive or threatening situations where we want, but hesitate, to intervene.

This is an interactive workshop that explores responding to everyday bigotry, being open to receiving feedback, and engaging in constructive dialogue with someone who has engaged in offensive behavior. We will practice useful strategies for handling specific situations and will help you discover what tools may work best for you.

Training includes a comprehensive 20-page packet of definitions, strategies and resources for becoming an effective upstander.

The Zoom link and the link to the packet will be included in your Confirmation email after you register. Please review the packet in advance (read pages 4-10), and plan to join the training a few minutes early.

Register here to receive the ZOOM link for Thursday November 4th: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcvceqtqD4sGtbNywKR1ZWpvWYpM3L...

This workshop is sponsored by the Hopkinton Freedom Team who has applied for support from the Hopkinton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

The Hopkinton CC Charitable Foundation Approaches $1,000,000 in Grants Distributed; Announces Children Across America as 2021 Gala Spotlight Grantee

The Hopkinton CC Charitable Foundation (HCCCF) announced that before the end of
2021 they will have granted over $1,000,000 since their inception in 2010. “The HCCCF is extremely proud
to reach this tremendous milestone and to have been able to help those in our communities that may not have
been able to help themselves. We are thankful to our generous sponsors and donors without whose support
this would not be possible.” stated Fred Wahlers, President of the Hopkinton CC Charitable Foundation.

In addition, Children Across America in Milford, MA will be the 2021 Spotlight Grantee for the 12th Annual
HCCCF Evening Gala to be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Hopkinton Country Club. The mission of
Children Across America is to give every child the literacy tools they need when leaving elementary
school, as students who are not reading proficiently at the end of the third grade are at risk of becoming one of
the 1.2 million students in the United States that do not graduate from high school every year. Children
Across America offers free programs for underserved children to develop literacy and mathematics skills in
elementary school students as well as in summer camps. Additionally, they are a partner vendor with the state
of Massachusetts Health Insurance. Says Wahlers, “Children Across America, under the leadership of Ray
Fellows, does amazing work and the HCCCF is privileged to support their cause.”

The November 20th Evening Gala will feature food, drink and live music by Never in Vegas, with a
speakeasy styled “The Roaring 20’s” theme. The public is welcome, and doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are
available for $150 and include gourmet dinner stations. Visit www.hopkintoncccf.org to purchase tickets and
get information on becoming a family or corporate sponsor. For those who are unable to attend, please
consider making a donation of any amount.

About Hopkinton CC Charitable Foundation

In 2010 HCCCF was born from an idea generated by the owners and management of Hopkinton Country
Club, along with some of the members, with a simple concept: could a core group be created that could raise
funds to support causes close to home in MetroWest. Our mission was defined around supporting youth and
families with the greatest needs in MetroWest communities and more specifically, two main philanthropic
programs: Youth Development and Economic Assistance. Since its inception in 2010, the Hopkinton CC
Charitable Foundation has distributed nearly $1,000,000 to the community to over 40 non-profits who serve
the most marginalized youth and families. We rely on the generosity of our corporate sponsors like Amica
Insurance, Oracle, and others, as well as dozens of family sponsors who make our philanthropy possible.

The Hopkinton CC Charitable Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

During this illustrated presentation, you will learn about native plants of New England. Plants native to our region will be easier to maintain, better able to withstand New England weather and may offer better resistance to deer and rabbits. The trees, shrubs, and perennials that evolved here will grow here with much less input from you. You will reduce your workload while creating a paradise for the native birds and pollinators

Gretel Anspach is a Trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, a Lifetime Master Gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association, and a recently-retired systems engineer for Raytheon. She won the MMGA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Her primary interest and focus is always in the science behind horticulture.
