Annual Members Meeting 2021
Saturday 30th October

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Assalamu alaikum

I pray this message finds you well.
The past 18 months have been a challenging time. Many of us have lost loved ones, suffered ill health and endured economic hardship in this period. We also see how many people have been affected by loneliness and isolation leading to a decline in mental well being. These challenges will remain with us over the next few years as we try to re-establish some form of normality. As we know, with such trials and difficulties, it is essential to turn to Allah and to help one another. Serving others takes on a new reality and a greater impetus.

Although many of the pandemic restrictions have been removed, the infection rate for COVID-19 remains high, as we come into Autumn. Having consulted with health professionals, we have therefore decided not to hold a face-to-face AMM. Instead, we plan to hold a virtual ISB Annual Members Meeting on Saturday 30th October InshaAllah. This will be your opportunity to hear about the work we have done over the past year and our aspirations for the future. It is also your opportunity to ask the Shura questions about how we have fulfilled our responsibilities.

As this will be the end of my 2-year term in office, we shall be holding elections for the positions of Chair and members of the Board of Trustees (Shura).  As this is going to be a virtual meeting, voting will be done using an online link via Zoom (please see below for the link to register).

If you are unable to attend the meeting but still want to vote for the Chair position, please contact the ISB office for further details at info@isb.org.uk

The pandemic has had a significant impact on all our activities across the country. Despite a cessation of all our face-to-face events, we were still able to continue the development of our young people by delivering a number of online events which included regular e-circles, a range of online seminars on topical subjects as well as Masterclasses led by specialists in their fields. During Ramadan, we ran daily e-circles and published our popular Ramadan Study Circle pack. Despite the COVID restrictions, our brothers and sisters in Manchester successfully delivered nearly 6000 freshly prepared meals to the care homes and shelters across Greater Manchester during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

As I stated from the outset, our vision for ISB has been clear:
  • Reconnecting our membership and developing real brotherhood and sisterhood
  • Youth and young adult development
  • Civic engagement and development
  • Social Action
We have had to reshape our approach during the last 18 months and focus on those activities that could be delivered on a virtual basis. We are now starting to consider face to face meetings once again. I am delighted to be able to announce that the first Campus residential this year will be held in Markfield from 12th-14th November InshaAllah. A beautiful programme, ‘Seeking the Divine’, will no doubt lift spirits and allow our young adults and their mentors to meet together (please see separate poster and details below)
A YM programme is also in the pipeline and we hope to announce this very soon. Our intentions remain to reinvigorate our work at local, regional, and national levels as normality returns InshaAllah.

As always, we can only succeed through the hard work of committed individuals and by Allah’s grace. We need your energy and your creativity to support us through the next period.
Please do join us by donating your time, your ideas and most of all your duas.

Ws,
Your brother
Khalid Anis
Chair, ISB
