RUES 5th grade students check out new Spanish language materials in Driggs library. They were looking for mysteries and playfully demonstrated their “mysterious” pose.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
The Friends Board was pleased to participate in the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 – October 15, by purchasing a collection of new Spanish language materials for the library.
Librarian Jaine Lewis was instrumental in choosing the genres and specific titles for this collection and opted for graphic novels, early chapter books, junior fiction classics and a few young adult selections by popular author Rick Riordan.
“I chose mostly graphic novels because if you’re learning a new language, it’s helpful to have the visual image to go along with the text,” Jaine explained.
Jaine also shared how pleasing it is to have materials available for both native Spanish speakers and those trying to learn the language.
“Once a month, students from Rendezvous Elementary School visit the library looking for different genres each time they come,” she said. “Two of the 5th grade classes are dual-language immersion, so it’s really great to have some new items for them to check out.”
