Last Call to Reserve NIP Tax Credits

The West Virginia Neighborhood Investment Program recently announced that the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation was allocated NIP tax credits. Qualifying gifts of $500 to $4,000 can be made to the Foundation to earn a 50% West Virginia income tax credit for the donor.

Because these West Virginia NIP tax credits actually reduce your state tax liability, a $1,000 gift to the Community Foundation translates into an actual $500 out-of-pocket expense—and even less if donors itemize deductions on their federal tax return. Programs supported by NIP tax credits serve low-income residents in highly distressed neighborhoods and certain restrictions apply for contributions to be eligible. The Community Foundation has placed nearly all of its allocation so if you are interested in learning more or in reserving NIP tax credits, click on the link below.

The Community Foundation recently received hundreds our 26th Annual Report to the Community from our friends at Progressive Printing. We will be mailing these out in November, but If you have a decent size computer screen, you can read it now as the online flip book is easy to access.

This year, we focused our publication on the great work being done by nonprofit organizations serving Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, and Hardy counties (our service region). During the pandemic, local charities went above and beyond to help friends and neighbors in need. We chose this wonderful photo of Autumn Tighe lovingly preparing bread at The River House in Capon Bridge for our cover this year. The determination in Autumn's eyes exemplifies how that team stepped up to serve Hampshire County in a truly remarkable way (and you can read about it on page eight).

Jefferson County Historic Preservation Fund Reaches Goal
Historic properties in Jefferson County will soon have the opportunity to apply for some much-needed funding as the Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission announced earlier this week that it reached its initial goal of $100,000 for the Jefferson County  Historic Preservation Fund. Established at the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation just over four years ago, this Agency-Endowed Fund is one of the fastest-growing in recent memory.
