Learn cultural competence and how to facilitate diversity!

National SAMSA is continuing our 2021-2022 Workshop Series this month with our second SAMSA Anti-Bias series event hosted by Dr. Emily Cleveland and Dr. Tanesha Beckford. We will be discussing microaggressions and going through specific case studies to practice! As a reminder, successful completion of this series will award you a National SAMSA membership designation and certificate. You do not have to have attended our first event to attend this one.

If you cannot make this event, no worries! We will continue to hold monthly workshops through our Anti-Bias committee in topics such as: cultural competency, colorism, diversity and medical education research, and more!

Our second annual M4 panel!

Last year, we held a panel of SAMSA M4s who had recently submitted their residency applications and were interested in reflecting on their experience and helping underclassmen gain some perspective. Due to the huge success of the event, we will be doing it annually through National SAMSA! Register today and follow our social media, and we'll send you updates on our final panelist lineup.

Road to Radiology Residency!

Interested in radiology? Join our panel with the program directors of Weil Cornell Medicine about what a residency in radiology entails. The Department of Radiology at Cornell is supporting diversity and minority students in their path to residency. It is their mission to help encourage more diversity in their fields and they are hoping to do so by partnering with SAMSA (and several other national student organizations) to increase mentorship and education early in future physician’s careers.

Recruiting M4 and Physician Mentors!

If you are an M4 student interested in serving the next cohort of medical students, or believe that there are South Asian physicians at your school who would be willing to mentor for National SAMSA, please check out this form to sign up to mentor. Mentorship can create invaluable connections and serve as an opportunity to advocate and impart wisdom on students that need it.

Join our National Leadership Team!

We are searching for dedicated and passionate individuals to join our National E-Board as Mentorship Co-Chair. Responsibilities include outreach to physician mentors, communication with mentees and mentors, and use of google suite to pair matches together. Deadline for applications is October 30th, 2021. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week after initial training.

If you are interested, please email nationalsamsa@gmail.com with your resume and brief description of your interests!

Publish with SAMSA! Accepting all genres: scholarly work, opinion pieces, artwork, creative writing, etc.

During the month of October, we celebrate South Asia! Take a look at our (non-comprehensive) calendar of events representing the eight South Asian countries - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, and Maldives - many religions and billions of diverse peoples.
