G21 HWB PILLAR UPDATE - OCTOBER 2021
DIRECTOR'S UPDATE

Welcome to our October edition of the G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar Newsletter.

Acknowledging the impact of the recent Victorian lockdown, and ongoing concerns for the community, if you or anyone you know requires assistance, please see these resources compiled by the Give Where You Live Foundation for the G21 Region:
https://www.givewhereyoulive.com.au/2021/05/lockdown-emergency-assistance/

The G21 Region Social Housing Project continues to progress. Unfortunately, with COVID restrictions in place, the Social Housing Forum has being reformatted into bespoke LGA specific online sessions. These sessions will mean that work can continue in relationship building, understanding of potential projects and capitalising on funding available.  We envisage a regional Housing forum for 2022, focusing on innovation.

Last week we held the HEAL transition forum, which was eloquently hosted by local HEAL guru Geoff Brown. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many reflecting on how far the collective impact initiative had come. We captured commitment to various ways of working together and key focus areas, as well as continuing the signature pieces of work for the HEAL G21 region collective. Celebrating key achievements over the last 4 years, we will continue to provide an evidence-based, data informed approach to enabling healthier lifestyles in the G21 region.

The transition for PCPs across Victoria continues, with engagement between VicPCPs, the Department of Health and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.  With completion set for March 2022, the next 6 months are critical in shaping how the PCP will be utilised in our region.

The “Growing Up in G21” project is completed. Details of launch events will be posted through social media in coming weeks.  It is anticipated  the document will assist in the creation of shared metrics and to monitor change in the delivery of early years services across the G21 region.

Our website is updated daily with links around the latest COVID-19 advice and updates from DH, as well as comprehensive links around mental health and wellbeing, how to prevent infection and spread, and emergency relief and links to support for those experiencing financial distress.

The G21 HWB Team look forward to prioritising the health and wellbeing of the G21 Community and continuing to work collaboratively, as we progress through the current COVID 19 environment.

Stay safe and get your COVID-19 vaccination.

IN OCTOBER THE G21 HWB PILLAR SUPPORTS
NATIONAL NUTRITION WEEK: OCTOBER 10 - 17

Get set! Try for 5 is coming October 10-17. Held during National Nutrition Week, Try for 5 is an unique collaboration between Nutrition Australia, vegetable growers and other health-focused organisations to help Australian get more vegetables in their day.

Only 7.5% of Australian adults eat enough veggies. For children it is even less. In fact, Australians eat 13kg less veggies than we did 20 years ago. We all know we should eat more. Increasing the amount to vegetables we eat is everyone’s job, not just so we can feel and live well right now, but so we can look after the generations to come after us.

Try for 5 inspires all Australians to eat more vegetables – with a new awesome recipe collection, live cooking events, handy resources, social takeovers and veg tips and hacks. It’s all you need to give veggies a go!

Get inspired to Try for 5 and feel the difference.
