If we are going to tap into the power of gratitude, we need to be intentional about practicing it, looking for it, and consistently doing it.

As this first quarter of the 2021-2022 school year comes to a close, we are moving our focus from "Gratitude" to the second aspect of the GROW Time theme: "Resilience". But before we do, let’s quickly review of how we can GROW to be more Grateful:

  • The Science of Gratitude: Science has shown gratitude has many benefits for us emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
  • The Power of Gratitude: Gratitude can help us gain back some control we have lost during the pandemic and help us navigate our current reality better.
  • Looking for Gratitude: To build gratitude into our lives we need to look for it. We have to be intentional with gratitude. Gratitude does not happen automatically.
  • Choosing Gratitude: A key component of gratitude is that we need to choose it consistently. The best step is to find a way to make it a habit.
  • Express Gratitude: An easy way to experience more gratitude in our lives is to say "Thank You" more often.
If we are going to tap into the power of gratitude, we need to be intentional about practicing it, looking for it, and consistently doing it. As the world is becoming more interested in the concept of "gratitude" and its importance, a number of apps have been developed to help us practice and develop grateful habits. I mention apps because they can help us make gratitude a consistent part of our daily lives, remind us to be grateful, and help us show gratitude. Here are a few suggested gratitude apps to try out for our phones and tablets:
  • Bliss: Daily journal prompts to help users be grateful (AndroidIOS)
  • Delightful: Simplified version of a gratitude journal (AndroidIOS)
  • Gratitude: A large variety of features to help users be grateful (AndroidIOS)
  • Presently: A scaled back, bare bones gratitude journal (Android)
  • Morning: Customizable app to help users be grateful (IOS)

There are many more gratitude apps out there to consider downloading and using. Receiving a "Gratitude" reminder each day might just be the key to experiencing gratefulness and all the wonderful benefits of making gratitude a part of our daily lives.

Annual Fund Begins

연례 기금 행사 시작
让年度基金开始吧
本年度の寄付金受け付け開始

As we wrap up the first week of Annual Fund, we’re excited to see donations come in. We’ve already raised RM 20,000! Each year, Annual Fund brings the community together to raise support for extra tools and resources to make Dalat a great place to learn and work. With five weeks left, we need your help!

This year, we are raising funds for several projects in preparation for students to return to campus. Let me tell you more about two of these priorities.

Knowing that the various MCOs and situations around COVID have been particularly challenging for our students, we will have an emphasis on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) support. Tools such as fidget spinners, sensory bracelets, self-regulation toys, calming and focus items, and SEL games will help develop skills like self-awareness, self-management, decision making, relationship building, and focus. These resources provide our elementary and middle school counselors with tools to work with children dealing with complex emotions. The Annual Fund priority of Social and Emotional Learning Resources costs RM 2,000. Click here to learn more and donate to this priority.

We love coming to a beautiful campus decorated with trees and plants. However, maintaining the campus requires effort to ensure it’s a safe and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and families. Dalat staff work hard to clear the roads and walkways of leaves and debris, but the sweeping of brooms and noisy gas-powered leaf blowers are disruptive to learning during school hours. Battery-powered leaf blowers will allow staff to maintain a safe, clean, and quiet learning environment. We are asking for RM 3,600 to fund three battery-powered leaf blowers for our campus. Click here to learn more and donate to this priority.

You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. Nehemiah 9:6

If you would enjoy working with our amazing Dalat students and want to make a difference in the Dalat community, please consider serving as a substitute teacher once students return to the classroom. Dalat teachers will be staying home when they are ill, even with mild symptoms. We anticipate an increased need for substitute teachers this school year, and we are asking our Dalat community to help us fill this need.

If you are interested in serving as a substitute teacher, please email Rebekah Conklin.
