The Student Ambassador program creates more connection between BISFA and the Foundation. Student Ambassadors meet with Mrs. Dickinson, BISFA Executive Director, on a monthly basis for a mentoring session, where they will discuss topics such as professionalism and philanthropy. In addition, Student Ambassadors will be invited to assist with and participate in various Foundation events and projects, for example  ushering at the annual Donor Society Event, creating gift bags for donors, giving tours of the new Academic building, and more!

CONGRATS, EVAN!

Evan Smedley, Class of 2022, is the new Student Rep for the Hagerstown Arts and Entertainment District Council. We got to sit with Evan and ask questions about the first meeting, which was held on Monday, October 11th, at noon.

Evan explained that the mission of the Arts and Entertainment District Council is to "have representation from different facets of the community," from students to business owners. These members of the community are "related in the areas of economics and the arts,"  and they meet to get feedback and get the word out for local events.

Some of the things that the A&E District Council is working on include tax incentives, to bring artists to the area and liven up the artistic community, and event planning, "to get people outside and doing stuff again."

When asked about the first meeting, Evan mentioned that it was "much less formal" than expected - a casual meeting that was more about conversation than structure. He was with 4-5 other business owners.

We asked Evan how he envisioned himself making an impact, and Evan said that he wanted "to bring a student voice." "A younger, as well as a student voice, is something that's needed....schools get so involved, especially a school like ours, and when there are mostly adults making decisions and coming up with ideas, it doesn't always represent the entire community."  Evan hopes to bring his voice, as well as the voices of students at BISFA, to the ears of the A&E District Council.

Looking forward, Evan is excited to help plan events, meet and work with the Mayor, and continue to get others involved in arts advocacy.
