Join us these next three Saturdays and learn how to make traditional Catrinas. Starting Saturday 9 and continuing on the 16 and 23 of October  GLAHR will be hosting art workshops. These workshops will focus on the construction, hand crafting, painting and history of the Catrinas. The workshops are completely FREE and all materials will be provided!

Calavera Catrina or the elegant skulls have a long rich history of symbolism and tradition in Mexico. The origins of Catrinas can be traced all the way back to 1910 and although celebrations surrounding El Día de Los Muertos goes back even further across Latin America, Catrinas have become an iconic symbol and emblem of this day.

Here at GLAHR we often repeat the saying “tienes que saber quien eres, para saber a donde vas” which roughly translates to "we must know who we are so we know where we are going"

GLAHR strongly believes in promoting art workshops that reinforce cultural values since cultural identity and traditions are such an integral part of our community. This gives us an opportunity to provide an open and safe space while learning about our history and sharing arts and crafts in preparation of festivities for November 2nd (Día de Los Muertos).
