Boo!  October is here and we look forward to celebrating Homecoming
and Halloween! With that in mind, we know early registration can spook some
students who are unsure about majors and careers but we can treat them to
good advice and helpful resources as they carve out their career path. Our hope
is that students to take full advantage of getting involved on campus,
engaging in meaningful experiences, and actively reflecting on career options.
Career & Major Exploration Resources
Early registration is starting soon and as you speak with students, we appreciate referrals you can make to exploring and deciding students about career resources and services. In particular, we'd like to highlight:
  • Career Specialist ConsultationsOur trained career peers can help students with self-assessments, exploring academic majors and career paths and more.  Staff is available in person and online Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Career Counseling: For those students needing more in-depth or ongoing support for exploring majors/careers, graduate education, job search, and more, they may want to schedule a virtual appointment with a career counselor. Appointment times vary between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Online Resources: Students not only have personal support, but a vast number of online tools to proactively start their exploration journey. This link goes to all career and major exploration resources we have tagged to the Mizzou Career Tools resource platform, featuring Guide to Exploring Majors & Careers, Focus 2, What Can I Do With This Major and many more. Mizzou Career Tools also features Career Interests pages where students can watch videos, read blogs and access other resources by broad industry areas.
Jumpstart is recruiting students!  Jumpstart is an early childhood program that matches college students with preschool children with limited resources in our local community. Students serve as Jumpstart tutors, building children's language, literacy and social emotional skills to help prepare them for kindergarten.

Jumpstart is offered as a work-study job paying $11.15 per hour, OR course credit, earning 6 credit hours towards graduation. Jumpstart Tutors are also AmeriCorps members, which provides a $1340 award at the end of the school year. Jumpstart requires availability on both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Interested students can email Bethany James for more information!
