Principal's Message
Dear O.H. Anderson Students and Families,
We want to celebrate the teamwork of all students at OHA for working hard to be respectful, responsible, and earning tickets. We have filled the bowl and tomorrow we will have an all-school game day. Please bring board games or cards. No technology, please.
Tomorrow we will continue to show teamwork during our Fun Run event. Please make sure you wear tennis shoes and dress in comfy clothes for the weather as we will be outside. It looks like it should be 53 degrees and partly cloudy.
What does the Fun Run Look like?
Each homeroom class will get outside for 20-minutes at an assigned time during the school day, and work their way through an engaging and fun obstacle course run. Obstacles and fitness pit stops along the way include dancing, sack races, football toss, and more. Students work at their own pace and adapt each stop to their needs. It's fun for everyone!
Please make sure you get pledges. All of the proceeds go to the PTO which supports all of our classrooms, field trips, Nature Trail Day, guest speakers, and more.
Thank you to all volunteers. Please check in at the main office entrance and then walk around the back of the school for your jobs. Please note bathrooms will not be able to be used in the school as we are trying to limit volunteers in the building for health and safety.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094da9a72fa5ff2-oh
Take care of yourself, your family, and each other.
"Student learning looks different in my classroom this year because I believe students have more choice and voice with the technology that is available to us. Students have more ways to complete assignments. For example, students get to pick if they would like to write or type their final draft for their personal narrative. Also, the use of technology allows students to work more independently. For example, students watch cursive videos in google classroom and practice in their cursive packet." Ms. Andria Warner, Third-Grade Teacher, O.H. Anderson Elementary School
"Technology use in my classroom is a vital part of our routines and is something that has not only pushed me to be a better teacher but has greatly benefitted my students. Technology not only helps me differentiate the content I teach but also allows me to use data for both planning and reflecting on my instruction. I have utilized technology to help me create more engaging and relevant content for my students which not only keeps their attention but also helps them understand how the curriculum is used in their lives. I have been able to give parents a window into our classroom while also increasing student voice by allowing them to explain via multimedia recordings. Technology plays a role every day in my planning, instruction, assessment, and differentiation." Mr. Nicholas Merges, Fourth-Grade Teacher, O.H. Anderson Elementary School
"We really need to begin teaching students to use technology as more than a way to entertain themselves. I try to use as much technology in my classroom as possible. I have access to several online music creation programs that remove the barriers that students in 3rd - 5th grade have as far as musical knowledge." Mr. Rob Pontious, Music Teacher, O.H. Anderson Elementary School
Homework is now called Continued Learning
The goal of homework/ continued learning is to….
Practice skills
Show your family what you know
Be organized and responsible for your Learning.
At OHA we want students to develop a love for reading so we want them to read for 20 minutes each night.
It is also a good idea to practice mathematical thinking. Our school is working toward everyone knowing their math facts correctly and with automaticity. Here are some ways you can develop this skill.
Students have a choice during math workshops on which hands-on games they want to play to practice their math skills.
Voices are celebrated during group work discussing how to solve math problems and discussing text evidence of actions, words, and thoughts in their books.
Voices are celebrated when students share their thinking with the class in solving math problems on the SMART Board. We love being the teachers.
Unity Day and Nature Trail Day
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. OHA will be celebrating Unity Day on Tuesday, October 19th instead of the 20th as we have Nature Trail Day on the 20th. We wear orange to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
October 20th is our Nature Trail Day at OHA. This is a day dedicated to celebrating our Nature Trail and science that is available all around us outdoors. Students will have many activities with their classes and will be doing lots of exploring outside. Please be sure your student is dressed for the outside activities.
Lost & Found
We have a lot of items in the lost and found in the foyer by thefront office.
Please check for your child's items. Thank you to Mr. Felbers and Ms. Dworaks class who are in charge of organizing these
Early Pick-Up or End of Day Changes
Procedures for Early Pickup or Changing End of Day Plans at OHA
The easiest way to ensure a smooth early pick-up is to send a letter with your student to give to their homeroom teacher about the end-of-day plans. If it is an unexpected event, please call the front office no later than 2:30 at 651-407-2300 to allow us time to contact your student. If we are aware of the plans, we will try to have your student(s) waiting in the office for you. If you are picking up your child early you will need to come into the lobby to ensure your child has checked out through the main office. Thank you for your help.
Vaccination Clinics continue to be open and free to the public and according to the CDC, vaccination is currently the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Washington County Public Health & Environment is currently holding COVID-19 vaccine clinics for individuals 12 years and older. Pfizer clinics are open to anyone 12 years and older.
