Huskys Postdocs in the News!
Congratulate your fine fellow fellows!
End stage kidney disease is debilitating, and patients need dialysis to replace their failing kidneys. Dialysis devices are extremely heavy so patients are far less mobile. UW Postdoc Guozheng Shao was critical in engineering a portable dialysis prototype that overcomes the immobility of conventional dialysis devices. Due to this work the UW Center for dialysis innovation has won an award!
Microglia are the only resident immune cell type in the central nervous system, yet we don't have the full story of how they are generate and how they renew. Well one of us UW postdocs, Katherine Prater (@katieeprater) found where a group of these cells comes from! Her work implies that there are multiple sources of mircoglia too, which and this topic is interesting in it's own right!
UW Biochem postdoc Jiae Lee (@Flying_Jiae) recently sent out a preprint with some of her work focusing on how intestinal muscles stay healthy and what causes wear & tear in these under a number of situations.
