Avila College News

Dear Avila Community

This week our Year 12 Class of 2021 returned to learning on campus. It has been wonderful. There have been all the expected COVID safe measures matched with masked smiles, genuine laughter and a renewed sense of community and belonging. This cohort of students are doing us all proud.

This week also marked the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and animals. St Francis cared for all God’s creation and this is something we can all treasure in the everyday of life - even in our unusual current conditions. Our commitment to stewardship of our world binds us together and in the prayer of St Francis - make us all a channel of God’s peace.

As our Year 12 students undertake their final preparations for the end of secondary school we keep them in our thoughts and our prayers. Confident they will strive for greatness and encouraging them always to reach out.

Happy learning!

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Public Speaking - Year Level Competition

In a world where everything seems to move so quickly, taking the time to prepare and to present a speech requires a great deal of focus and determination, and a preparedness to consider ideas from viewpoints at which we might not easily arrive.

This year’s participants in the 2021 Public Speaking competition rose magnificently to the challenge, revealing considerable skills in communication, and performance, and most of all, a willingness to lead by example.

The competition was adjudicated by Ms Crowe, and our Public Speaking and Debating leaders (from different year levels), and we offer our congratulations to all of the participants in this year’s competition on their highly engaging presentations, and in particular, to the following students for their successful results.
