"Happiness List"

Recently, when I was putting a client group through one of my time mastery workshops, a participant started asking me questions about what I call my "Daily Happiness List". This is the list I make every morning in the office, before I open up my emails. It lists all those things I need to get done that day. Prioritized by importance and urgency.

The question was about what was on the list. The participant misunderstood that I only include things that make me happy on the list, therefore calling it my happiness list. I assured her that it is not the case! On the list are things that I need to get done, some easy, some challenging, and some even tough and scary. The list however forces me to stay focussed throughout the day, and I feel happier throughout the day. That’s why I call it my happiness list!

This made me think. Why does it make me feel happier? Here are some reasons.
  1. I feel in control. Feelings of overwhelm disappear.
  2. I get the important things done. It feels like progress throughout the day.
  3. As I draw a physical line through an item once I complete it, it feels like a mini-celebration every time!
  4. Additional items are easily added throughout the day as needed. I can adapt and refocus as needed.
  5. At the end of the day I can look back and see what’s been accomplished. Sometimes the day may end with lots of new items and even fires that have to be put out. Looking back on the list of achieved tasks, grounds me and makes me feel in control and . . . wait for it . . .  happy.
Doing this every day leads to happier days. Happiness sustained over many days leads to joy!
I hope you found this helpful. More of the same can be found on nicohuman.com or by following me on LinkedIn, Facebook or YouTube.

Thank you. Until next week! Remember to use your own happiness list every day. Soon it will lead to joy!
