XXVIII DOMINGO DO TEMPO COMUM - ANO B, 10 de Outubro de 2021

LEITURA I Sab 7, 7-11

Orei e foi-me dada a prudência; implorei e veio a mim o espírito de sabedoria. Preferi-a aos ceptros e aos tronos e, em sua comparação, considerei a riqueza como nada. Não a equiparei à pedra mais preciosa, pois todo o ouro, à vista dela, não passa de um pouco de areia e, comparada com ela, a prata é considera¬da como lodo. Amei-a mais do que a saúde e a beleza e decidi tê-la como luz, porque o seu brilho jamais se extingue. Com ela me vieram todos os bens e, pelas suas mãos, riquezas inumeráveis.

EVANGELHO Mc 10, 17-30

Naquele tempo, ia Jesus pôr-Se a caminho, quando um homem se aproximou correndo, ajoelhou diante d’Ele e perguntou- Lhe: «Bom Mestre, que hei-de fazer para alcançar a vida eterna?». Jesus respondeu: «Porque Me chamas bom? Ninguém é bom senão Deus. Tu sabes os mandamentos: Não mates; não cometas adultério; não roubes; não levantes falso testemunho; não cometas fraudes; honra pai e mãe’». O homem disse a Jesus: «Mestre, tudo isso tenho eu cumprido desde a juventude». Jesus olhou para ele com simpatia e respondeu:

«Falta-te uma coisa: vai vender o que tens, dá o dinheiro aos pobres e terás um tesouro no Céu. Depois, vem e segue-Me». Ouvindo estas palavras, anuviou-se-lhe o semblante e retirou-se pesaroso, porque era muito rico. Então Jesus, olhando à sua volta, disse aos discípulos: «Como será difícil para os que têm riquezas entrar no reino de Deus!». Os discípulos ficaram admirados com estas palavras. Mas Jesus afirmou-lhes de novo: «Meus filhos, como é difícil entrar no reino de Deus! É mais fácil passar um camelo pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no reino de Deus». Eles admiraram-se ainda mais e diziam uns aos outros: «Quem pode então salvar-se?». Fitando neles os olhos, Jesus respondeu: «Aos homens é impossível, mas não a Deus, porque a Deus tudo é possível». Pedro começou a dizer-Lhe: «Vê como nós deixámos tudo para Te seguir». Jesus respondeu: «Em verdade vos digo: Todo aquele que tiver deixado casa, irmãos, irmãs, mãe, pai, filhos ou terras, por minha causa e por causa do Evangelho, receberá cem vezes mais, já neste mundo, em casas, irmãos, irmãs, mães, filhos e terras, juntamente com perseguições, e, no mundo futuro, a vida eterna». Palavra da salvação.

FIRST READING I Wisdom 7.7-11

I prayed, and understanding was given me;

I called on God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me.

I preferred her to sceptres and thrones,

and I accounted wealth as nothing in comparison with her.

Neither did I liken to her any priceless gem,

because all gold is but a little sand in her sight,

and silver will be accounted as clay before her.

I loved her more than health and beauty,

and I chose to have her rather than light,

because her radiance never ceases.

All good things came to me along with her,

and in her hands uncounted wealth.

HOLY GOSPEL I Mark 10.17-27 (shorter)

As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honour your father and mother.’”

He said to Jesus, “Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth.” Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”

When the man heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

They were greatly astounded and said to one another, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For humans it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.”

Queridos irmãos, algumas informações importantes:

Do dia 12 ao dia 27 de Outubro eu estarei de férias. Portanto, as missas do final de semana em nossa paróquia serão celebradas pelos padres da nossa Arquidiocese e serão em inglês;
No dia 13 de Outubro, a Missa de Nossa Senhora será celebrada pelo pe. Augusto Garcia, da Paróquia Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe e esperamos acolher os irmãos latinos que virão acompanhando o seu pastor;
No dia 16 de Outubro, as Mordomas Fátima Brinco e Céu Alves, juntamente com a Comissão de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, estão organizando um “TAKEOUT”: Bacalhau a Brás, pão e de sobremesa, quadrado de coco. Irmãos e irmãs, a liturgia do 28º Domingo do Tempo Comum convida-nos a reflectir sobre as escolhas que fazemos; recorda-nos que nem sempre o que reluz é ouro e que é preciso, por vezes, renunciar a certos valores perecíveis, a fim de adquirir os valores da vida verdadeira e eterna.

Na primeira leitura, um “sábio” de Israel apresenta-nos um “hino à sabedoria”. O texto convida-nos a adquirir a verdadeira “sabedoria” (que é um dom de Deus) e a prescindir dos valores efémeros que não realizam o homem. O verdadeiro “sábio” é aquele que escolheu escutar as propostas de Deus, aceitar os seus desafios, seguir os caminhos que Ele indica.

O Evangelho apresenta-nos um homem que quer conhecer o caminho para alcançar a vida eterna. Jesus convida-o renunciar às suas riquezas e a escolher “caminho do Reino” – caminho de partilha, de solidariedade, de doação, de amor. É nesse caminho – garante Jesus aos seus discípulos – que o homem se realiza plenamente e que encontra a vida eterna.

A segunda leitura convida-nos a escutar e a acolher a Palavra de Deus proposta por Jesus. Ela é viva, eficaz, actuante. Uma vez acolhida no coração do homem, transforma-o, renova-o, ajuda-o a discernir o bem e o mal e a fazer as opções correctas, indica-lhe o caminho certo para chegar à vida plena e definitiva.

Dear God’s people, some important information:

From the 12th to the 27th of October I will be on vacation. Weekend masses in our parish will be celebrated by the priests of our Archdiocese in English;
On October 13th, the Mass of Our Lady will be celebrated by Fr. Augusto Garcia, from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and we hope to welcome the Latin brothers who will come with their pastor;
On October 16, as Butlers Fátima Brinco and Céu Alves, together with the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Commission, are organizing a “TAKEOUT”: Bacalhau a Brás, bread and dessert, coconut square. All this for just C$25.00. The pick-up will be between 5pm and 6pm. You can place your order by calling Fátima Brinco (780) 479-3182, Céu Alves (780) 479-8690 or the Church Office;
We thank the Empire of the Church that this week gave me the amount of C$5,000.00. Thanks to all our benefactors!
We will not have the Bulletin or Mass broadcast online for two weeks as I will be absent for those weeks;

The liturgy of the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to reflect on the choices we make; it reminds us that what glitters is not always gold and that it is sometimes necessary to renounce certain perishable values in order to acquire the values of true and eternal life.

In the first reading, a “wise man” from Israel presents us with a “hymn to wisdom”. The text invites us to acquire true “wisdom” (which is a gift from God) and to do without the ephemeral values that man does not fulfill. The true “sage” is the one who chose to listen to God's proposals, accept his challenges, follow the paths He indicates.

The Gospel presents us with a man who wants to know the way to eternal life. Jesus invites you to renounce your riches and choose “the path of the Kingdom” – a path of sharing, solidarity, giving, love. It is on this path – Jesus assures his disciples – that man is fully fulfilled and that he finds eternal life.

The second reading invites us to listen to and accept the Word of God proposed by Jesus. She is alive, effective, active. Once accepted in the heart of man, it transforms him, renews him, helps him to discern good and evil and to make the right choices, shows him the right path to reach full and definitive life.
