Sunday Service Follow-Up

October 10, 2021

Thank you for joining us today! Below are questions for you to consider related to today's message "Love Undivided" from 1 John 2:15-17. We'd love to hear your feedback about how our service is going!

Questions:
  1. How do v. 15-17 connect with what John has said so far in this letter?
  2. What does it mean to love the world? What does it mean to love God? Why is it not possible to have a divided love or allegiance?
  3. What are the three reasons why it is not wise to love the world? Which are most compelling to you?
  4. How do the three things mentioned in v. 16 help you to assess where you might be prone to love the world more than God?
  5. Pursuing new affections and pursuing community can help us love God more than the world. Are you pursuing these things? Why or why not? What are other means of grace that can be helpful?
  6. Who is someone you can encourage this week with something you learned from the text or sermon?
Sermon Quotes:
"The love of God and the love of the world, are two affections, not merely in a state of rivalship, but in a state of enmity - and that so irreconcilable, that they cannot dwell together in the same [heart]...The only way to dispossess it of an old affection, is by the expulsive power of a new one.”
- Thomas Chalmers, The Expulsive Power of a New Affection
