Dear Neighbour,
It has now been over a year since I was first elected as MLA for North Vancouver - Seymour! I am so proud to have been given your trust. It has been spectacular!

Our Government has worked hard to build a stronger BC for all British Columbians. We have worked hard to make life more affordable for everyone, and improving on the services that people need.

Reducing the cost of ICBC, making transit free for kids are just a couple of changes our government has brought in to help families and average British Columbians.
We have opened up more Urgent Primary Care Centres across the province, as well as building, modernizing, and expanding hospitals. This will reduce waiting times for surgeries and MRIs.

We are making it easier and more affordable to switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity. We are creating 85,000+ jobs with record infrastructure investments and setting targets to keep government accountable under CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America.

We’re moving forward on the path of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. We are developing the DRIPA action plan, and have formed long-term agreements that support self-determination and shared prosperity including partnerships with the Tahltan Nation and Upper Nicola Band. We are supporting First Nations in truth telling, healing and justice for residential school survivors, their families and communities. We supported demolition of the former residential school and construction of a new community centre in Lower Post. We are helping preserve Indigenous cultures including revitalization of First Nations languages.

We have worked hard to make a real, positive difference in people’s lives, and we know there is more work to do. Looking forward, British Columbians remain our priority, and we will keep working every day to build a stronger BC for coming generations.
As always, if you have questions or need any assistance with provincial COVID-19 supports, want your vaccine cards printed out and laminated, or any other provincial issue, please reach out. My office can be reached at 604-983-9859 or by emailing us at susie.chant.mla@leg.bc.ca.

And a safe and happy Halloween to all!
Cheers!
Susie

Free flu shots this year!

The Province has made flu vaccines free for everyone this year! To find a clinic, go to http://immunizebc.ca/clinics. There you can book an appointment online and help everyone stay safe.

Booster shots!

The Province has been sending out invitations to people 70 and older that are registered in the Get Vaccinated System, as well as well as Indigenous Peoples 12 and older, to register and book their COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. Priority will be given to those most at risk. Starting in January 2022, we will be expanding the plan to include anyone 12 and older. Vaccines are on of the most effective ways of reducing your risk of catching COVID-19, of reducing the effects of it if caught, and of reducing its spread. Please get vaccinated!

COVID-19 Drop-in clinic

Drop-ins continue to be welcome at all Vancouver Coastal Health clinics on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on your eligibility and vaccine availability. People 12 and older are eligible to be vaccinated, and you are eligible for a second dose at 28 days after your first dose. The closest clinic is at:
  • ICBC Claim Centre
255 Lloyd Ave., North Vancouver, everyday (except November 11) till November 21, 2021
from 9 AM till 7 PM.

More help for people living with addiction

A new investment in B.C.’s system of substance-use care will build treatment and recovery services for people who need them in communities throughout the province.

The province has funded $132-million over the next three years for treatment and recovery services as part of Budget 2021’s plan to build a system of mental health and addictions care that works to help people living with addiction. Included in this funding will be a new peer-led, trauma-informed education program for people with lived and living experience of addiction in the Vancouver Coastal Health Region

The importance of vaccinations

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to connect with Dorothy Kirby. Dorothy caught polio as a child, just one year before the vaccine was made available. She now suffers from post-polio syndrome.

Back when the polio vaccine was being released, there were similar sentiments and conversations being had as today. Most were excited for an end to polio, but some were hesitant. Much like with COVID-19, the long-term effects of polio at that time were not fully known. It is not worth the risk to find out what those effects will be down the road for COVID-19.

Dorothy jumped on the soonest opportunity to get her COVID vaccine. If you still are not vaccinated, I would recommend you do the same. If you know loved ones who are still hesitant, try to encourage them to get vaccinated. It is not worth the risk of waiting around.

Maybe this conversation will help change some minds, hopefully it will. If you think you know someone who would benefit from listening to Dorothy's story, please feel free to share.

Thank you to Peter Teevan for setting this up and thinking of this idea.

Library chats

Come join me for a chat at the library! I will be at both the Parkgate branch and the Lynn Valley branch once a month in November and December for a chance to meet up and ask me questions and give me feedback. The next meetup dates will be:
  • Tuesday, November 9th, between 10:30 and 11:30 AM, and between 7 and 8 PM at the Parkgate library

  • Wednesday, November 10th, between 1:30 and 3:30 PM at the Lynn Valley library.
I met with the people at Seaspan earlier this month to celebrate their 10th anniversary of their participation in the National Shipbuilding Strategy. If you can't find me in the picture, I am the one not wearing black.
