Dear <<First Name>>,
(Oops – the original email had the wrong ticket link in it. This one has the correct link in it.)
Happy Friday! It's been a while since we've checked in with you, but we have thrilling news that's been a couple of months in the making: we're returning to in-person concerts!!
We'll be back on stage with Fernando y Bárbara, a concert of 18th-century Spanish and Portuguese music. The concerts will be on Saturday, November 6 at 7:30pm in Austin (St. Martin's Lutheran Church, click for map) and Sunday, November 7 at 3:00pm in San Antonio (St. John's Lutheran Church, click for map). As always, there'll be an informal pre-concert talk that starts 30 minutes before each program. The concert will feature our full orchestra—together for the first time since late 2019—and soprano soloists Julianna Emanski and Shari Wilson.
Who were Fernando and Bárbara? Ferdinand VI and his wife, Bárbara de Braganza, reigned over Spain from 1746 until 1759 and were some of 18th-century Europe's most lavish patrons of music. Musicians themselves, the royal couple employed such luminaries as the great Domenico Scarlatti (the queen's keyboard teacher from the age of 10) and the renowned castrato Farinelli. We'll be performing music by some of their favorite composers, much of which we know for certain the king and queen themselves heard, including works by Scarlatti, José de Nebra, Carlos de Seixas, Luigi Boccherini, and others.
In coordination with our venues, we have developed a set of Covid-related safety protocols (click to read) that include requiring the wearing of face masks for musicians and audience members while inside the venue. And, because we know some aren't quite ready to venture back into live performances, we'll be recording the concert for replay on YouTube beginning two weeks after the performance. Anyone who purchases a ticket will get access to the video, so even if you attend in person, you can watch it again! Send us an email if there are any questions we can answer.
Tickets are on sale now (click here) and "pay as you can" tickets will be available at the door, reflecting our belief that access to the arts should not be hindered for any reason.
We're so excited to welcome you back to live early music – please join us!
Musically yours,
Billy Traylor – Artistic Director
Stephanie Noori – Concertmaster
Chelsee Sandaker – Ensemble Administrator
James Moran – President, Board of Directors
