Podcasts from Germany

Curator:

Daniel Stern
Why did you choose this theme?

Berlin has an amazing and diverse podcast community, which has grown a lot in the last few years. To celebrate that achievement, I founded PodFest Berlin, and these are a few of the podcasts that will be recording at our festival later this month.

Flicks and Scoops
Die Hard with Basti Knight

Flicks 'n' Scoops' host Ash loves ice cream and movies and somehow combined them into one podcast. The conversations are great, bouncing back and forth between these two topics, and then off in other directions.

Beyond Asian
Eating Bitterness to Make Meaning

This was one of the podcasts I discovered through PodFest Berlin and it totally blew me away. In this episode, host Sen Zhan does an amazing job of making an intensely personal conversation with her guest, Holly, feel relatable and universal.
Trigger warning: suicidal ideation, trauma, abandonment.

Radio Spätkauf
How to F#€K Up An Airport

This is one of my episodes, but I have to give all the credit for it’s success to my cohosts who did an amazing job researching, writing, and editing this spin-off series.

Common Ground
Time to Reboot – Germany’s Rocky Road To The Digital Age

I first heard Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson’s voice through her reporting for NPR, and I am so glad that she has embraced podcasting. The show has a radio feel I love; Soraya and producer Dina Elsayed book knowledgeable guests, create great conversations, and apply high-quality production.

FrauenQuote
Tee nach Türkei, Tabak nach Dubai

EarBuds mostly focusses podcasts in English, but PodFest Berlin is a multilingual festival, so I wanted to include a German-language podcast here. FrauenQuote features two hilarious and good-natured comedians, Kinan Al and Filiz Tasdan.

FEEDBACK WITH EARBUDS:
This week on Feedback...

We finally got our sh*t together. By that, we mean: for the first time ever, our interview is with the same person that curated this week's theme. Meet Daniel Stern, the founder of PodFest Berlin.

He moved to Germany 10 years ago on a whim. Now, he's organizing podcast festivals!

COMMUNITY:
📰Lauren Passell's 'Podcast The Newsletter,' "I’m no doctor, but I think my heart lifted outside of its chamber, if that’s possible, when I listened to a new episode of Heavyweight. We meet Brandon, who remembers being a) a dork in high school and b) being asked to prom by a popular girl named Allie. And fifteen years later, he calls her and asks why."

✅Marketing Your Podcast: our founder, Arielle Nissenblatt, appeared on this podcast to discuss podcast newsletters and how to get featured.
