Dear Pastors, Partners, and Volunteers,

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful time of the year when God’s Creation is more evident with the beautiful display of changing colors.  We love it all, but Cathy’s favorite are the deep reds.  What beautiful colors appear as the green chlorophyll dissolves.   Perhaps it’s symbolic of our growth in Christ – as we move from new Christian greenies to mature Christians, our beautiful colors of faith show through.

Speaking of fall, our Fall Giveaway was again a helpful outreach to the community.  We had 92 families sign in that covered 269 adults and children.  Since for various reasons, we didn’t have all of our normal setup crew this year, we were so thankful for added help from some Freedom House Sweet Magnolia ladies (on three on the right in the picture on the right.)  All in all, it is a great event with many expressing appreciation as they left.

It was lots of fun to share a fair booth with 7BCAREs, a Bonner County Christian emergency preparedness nonprofit.  We handed out lots of candy and shared our Good Samaritan Inn vision with at least 163 people.  Jon threw a piece of paper with John 3:16 on it at people he knew and said he was sharing the Gospel!  Never a dull moment with him. LOL!  We enjoyed being across from the Community Envision Resource Center booth.  We liked our location so much that we have already reserved it for next year.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, two of our favorite stories this quarter center on thanksgiving.  One day when we opened the center, someone had donated children’s magnetic letters by forming a message on our door with them saying, “I love you, thanks.”  How sweet.  Shortly after we received a thank you note from a client saying our help kept her family in their home.  She included cookie dough coupons for our volunteers.  So thoughtful.  These things are so encouraging to us.

We love how God uses this ministry to provide.  Our favorite provision stories involves a bike and a cot.  A dear friend donated a bike.  As it was being unloaded, someone nearby said they have really been wanting a bike. We said, “Well, here it is.”  We received a cot for the first time, and a volunteer said her boss could use it in his office for a medical condition for which he needs to lie down periodically.  We were so glad to be able to supply that to him.  What a joy to be vessels of God’s provision.

Plans are moving forward with our two acres of land in Ponderay on Triangle Dr. for The Good Samaritan Inn.  We are deeply grateful for all the preliminary work our board chairman, Toby Walrath, has done in submitting our site plan and special use code applications.  Our public hearing is October 13, 5:30 pm at the Ponderay City Planning Office, during which Toby, Barry Johnson, board member, and we will answer questions. Then on November 10, the planners will accept or reject our applications.  We are trusting for acceptance so we can close on the property November 12.  Please keep these dates in prayer, especially the upcoming public hearing.  Please pray for God's favor on Toby, Barry and us as we respond to questions and possible objections before the Ponderay City Planning and Development Council.  This is a crucial step for us to cross in order to move forward, so we earnestly covet your prayers

Providing we close November 12, then it is on to fund raising and grant writing for the nearly $2M we need for building a complex of 48 studio apartments for The Good Samaritan Inn and a new building for Helping Hands Healing Hearts also on the property.  This is a big project, but it is to fill a big need that is getting bigger.  Nearly half of all the motel lodging we have provided for homeless has been since January 1st of this year.  We know within our hearts that it is God’s will for God’s people to meet this need and provide shelter, help, and hope to the homeless.  This is a great community we dearly love, and we deeply appreciate and look forward to all your support.

Sincerely in Christ,
