Every now and then you may need to use a Class 1E-qualified isolation device for instrumentation and control circuits.

In the progressively more digital I&C future, this will become more important.

Here is an example test report from a PLC module used as such an isolator:

There isn't much hard data in the report, but it's good to review and get an idea for how IEEE 384 isolation requirements are demonstrated in test plans.
