Waka Ama NZ COVID-19 Vaccine Information

Moving forward as we learn more about this current outbreak and learn to live with COVID 19 in our lives, it is important to Waka Ama New Zealand that our community and our Waka Ama whānau are as safe and protected as possible.

There are lots of measures that we can all take to help protect ourselves and our whānau and these are available on the Covid 19 website: https://covid19.govt.nz/health-and-wellbeing/protect-yourself-and-others-from-covid-19/

One of the biggest tools we have available for protection is the COVID 19 Vaccine. Being fully vaccinated, if you are eligible, will help ensure our community is safe from the virus, it will also help to protect those who are not eligible to receive the vaccine and it will help to ensure that Waka Ama events can continue to take place over summer.

Waka Ama New Zealand encourage our entire waka ama community to get vaccinated if you are within the eligible ages.

Dr Jamie-Lee Rahiri

Kei aku rangatira, kei aku raukura, tēnei aku mihi maioha ki a koutou katoa.

Jamie-Lee (Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara, Ngāti Porou, Te Atihaunui-a-Pāpārangi) is training to be a surgeon after recently completing her PhD in Hauora Māori and bariatric surgery. She and her whānau will be moving to Taranaki next year for her training.

Jamie-Lee started paddling at intermediates level and continued up until 2019 when she decided to focus on her whānau and her Mahi. She misses it so much but has her die, hard parents, Sugar and Ben keeping the Waka Ama fires going at Te Raki Paewhenua in Tāmaki.

Dr Anthony Jordan

Dr Anthony Jordan (Ngāti Wai) grew up in Te Tai Tokerau and went to Pompallier College in Whangārei.

He graduated from the University of Auckland School of Medicine in 2004, and now works as a physician, clinical immunologist and allergist in Tāmaki Makaurau where he treats patients with disorders of the immune system.

Anthony is a member of Te Rōpū Whakakaupapa Urutā (the National Māori Pandemic group) and is the Co-ordinator of the Northern Regional Vaccine rollout.
