NOTICES
John Penrose, RIP 1934-2021
It is with great sadness that we write that John Penrose died peacefully at home early on Monday morning, aged 87 years. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.

A Thanksgiving Service will be held at St Peter & St Paul Church, Shiplake on Thursday 28th October at 2.30pm to which all are welcome. Please keep John's family and Sheila in your prayers at this time.
Toilet Twinning Charity logoHarvest Gifts: Toilet Twinning

Across the Benefice, our chosen charity for Harvest giving this year is Toilet Twinning. Rather than inundating the Food Bank with produce at harvest time, we should, as individuals, be donating food and necessities to the Nomad Food Bank all year round on a regular basis. So the clergy team agreed that Toilet Twinning would be our chosen harvest charity this year.

We have one more harvest festival in the Benefice - at Dunsden - and it happens to be a Benefice Service with Wholeness & Healing on Bible Sunday, 24th October. So you can donate to Toilet Twinning there, or you can go online to get more information and donate directly here

For the service on 24th, please bring your favourite Bible with you for blessing, along with your donations for Toilet Twinning. Thank you.

Tea with God - 'Exploring Hallowe'en' - Sunday 17th at 4pm

Everyone is welcome to this family service where we will explore Hallowe'en in a Christian context with songs, prayers, reflections and the opportunity to make your own seasonal lantern. With seasonal refreshments as we share Tea with God.

Invite friends and families, or come and help with the preparations, all offers gratefully received. Revd Sarah.

Training for leading worship

Within the new pattern of worship agreed by the Joint PCC, there are several opportunities for lay-led services. Initially, these will be led by our clergy team with the aim of lay leaders taking over in due course. We will be running a training session on Saturday 23rd October from 13.00-17.00 in The Ark at Shiplake; it will be led jointly by Robert, Pam and Sarah and we will look at:

  • The background behind Morning and Evening Prayer
  • Speaking in church
  • How to plan a Service of the Word

Please think about whether you might be called to lead in some way; this includes doing reading and intercessions. Attending the session doesn’t mean you have to follow it through. And if you can’t come to this one, let us know and we will organise another session. Contact Leigh to book a place or register your interest.

Medley of hymns and poems - 31st October

All Saints, Dunsden will be holding a medley of hymns and poems on Sunday 31st October at 4.30pm, followed by tea and cakes. If you have a favourite poem or hymn that you would like to hear, please contact Leigh.
