Hi Friend-

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! Today and every day we should acknowledge that we are on the land of the Nipmuc and Pocumtuc. (https://native-land.ca/) Let's give appreciation that the origins of many of the fruits, vegetables and even maple syrup* that we garden, farm and produce today can be traced to the people who originally lived on and cared for this land.

There will be lots of fall treats at the market this week, from winter squash, pumpkins, apple cider and fresh ginger, to fall themed popsicles, pierogi and stir fry. Be sure to stop by the Wingate Farm tent as this will be their last market of the season.

You will not want to miss the incredibly talented father-daughter folk duo, Chris and Norma Haynes who will play from 3-5:30pm. They will be joined by special guests, Jetties. Read more about them as well as market specials and a full list of vendors below.

See you at the Market!

Reminder: masks are now required at the market regardless of vaccination status except while eating and/or maintaining 6ft+ physical distance from others.

Fall is in the air and in the pops! Crooked Stick Pops is bringing out some fall favorites including Apple Pie a la Mode and Coffee Pumpkin Pie, and running a 6 for $20 stock up sale. Additionally, puppy pops are back! Made with bone broth and puppy pate from Underline Farm, along with apple and blueberries, these mini pops are a hit with the pups!
This week we bid adieu to Wingate Farm for the season. Be sure to stock up on their incredible vegetables, herbs, flowers and eggs at their last market of the year.
Thai Chili will be serving a farm to bowl stir fry and ginger tea.

News from Red Fire Farm:

Fall is here and the fall crops are ripe!  Winter squash yields this year were reduced due to the abnormal wetness during July, but the fruits did ripen are tasting very good! Get them while you can before they all sell out. We have the Japanese Heirloom Black Futsu, as well as Sweet Dumpling and of course lots of Butternut and Acorn now ready.

October is one of the best months of the year for greens, and we have gorgeous spinach this year as well as very nice kale, Boc Choy and collards right now.  Deer unfortunately have eaten much of our fall lettuce and chard this year, but we have extra salad mix at the markets this week to make up for the head lettuce shortage.

We have an incredible ginger crop this fall, and the first brussels sprouts are also ready now!

Also check out the video about carrot harvesting.  Our fall carrot harvest is now underway, and we will have nice sweet carrots all winter!

And of course, October is peak apple season!

MichelleBijou is having a holiday sale featuring 20% off all full-price jewelry!
Chris and Norma Jean-Haynes play the market from 3-5:30pm!

Chris and Norma Jean Haynes are a father-daughter duo, playing a rich variety of original and traditional folk music. Chris Haynes is a beloved accordionist and pianist in the Valley, and can be found accompanying the Young@Heart Chorus, Big Yellow Taxi (Northampton's Joni Mitchell tribute band), the Threesies, and Claudia Schmidt. Norma Jean, his daughter, has studied clawhammer banjo throughout Appalachia, as well as traditional singing styles in Bosnia, South Africa, and England. Poetic, fun, and often deeply moving, the duo's repertoire spans generations.

They will be joined by special guests, Jetties, a duo from Shelburne Falls composed of Page and Joe Gutierrez.

SNAP at Tuesday Market

We have 2 ways that customers can use SNAP benefits at the market:

(1) HIP (Healthy Incentives Program) for Massachusetts SNAP users to buy fruits and vegetables from local farmers and receive an immediate reimbursement to their SNAP accounts of up to $40-$80 per month. We have several vendors who accept SNAP and HIP (see weekly vendor list).

(2) SNAP Matching at the purple market tent allows customers to double up to $10 in SNAP benefits each week. Customers purchase tokens to use to shop for anything at the market that is SNAP eligible, including items not eligible for HIP reimbursement.

Any questions? Please ask us at the purple market tent where you can also double your SNAP dollars or click here for some Frequently Asked Questions

SNAP Matching at Tuesday Market in 2021 is generously funded by Florence-based business Valley Home Improvement and Baystate Health!

Thank you for helping to make local food more accessible to SNAP recipients.
