Firstly, many thanks to all those who sent in appeals against the EPA’s decision to allow Perdaman to add further to the industrial pollution on the Burrup. I believe the response was noteworthy and FARA has been called in this week to meet further with the Appeals Convenor… so keep fingers crossed.

Landmark Legal Case: UN Scrutiny for WA Cultural Heritage Bill after First
Nations Referral
The Environmental Defenders’ Office (EDO) has assisted a group of First Nations people to make a formal request for a United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to review Western Australia’s draft proposed cultural heritage bill, arguing the bill is incompatible with Australia’s international obligations on racial discrimination.
This request by WA Aboriginal leaders Slim Parker, Kado Muir, Dr Anne Poelina, Clayton Lewis and Dr Hannah McGlade, has just been lodged as it is expected that the formal Bill will be tabled in the WA Parliament in the very near future: https://www.edo.org.au/2021/09/10/un-scrutiny-for-wa-cultural-heritage-bill-after-first-nations-referral/

Concert to celebrate 75th anniversary of 1946 Pilbara Strike by Aboriginal Pastoral Workers
75 years ago, on May 1 (May Day), 1946, hundreds of Aboriginal workers began walking off dozens of pastoral stations across the vast Pilbara region to fight for wages and better living conditions.
We invite you to join us to honour the courage and determination of the strikers, and commemorate this pivotal, yet little known event in our shared history.
On 23 October, the Pilbara Strike Band will be returning to the Fremantle Park Sport and Community Centre for one night only.
Featured musicians: David Milroy, Dave Johnson, Naomi Pigram, musical director David Hyams, Roy Martinez and Talya Valenti, Roebourne singer-songwriter Tyson Mowarin and a theatrical performance by playwright Jolly Read.
