Our own Master Naturalist Martina Patterson will be our guide and help us understand how plants react to this time of transition. She'll give us the plants' perspective as they go from summer glory toward their long winter rest. Check our Facebook Events Page to RSVP.

Nearby Nature and friends to begin trail building.

Hikers struggle with footing prior to new trail constructionThis Fall, we proposed to MMSD that we build a safe route to a small pocket of wilderness in the city and they agreed.  This 20 acre wild space along Lincoln Creek in Milwaukee's 30th Street railroad corridor is home to deer, coyotes, owls and herons. Near Congress and Hopkins, a short walk takes you away from traffic noise to the sounds of birds and crickets.  Soon residents will have a safe, level trail to reach this place.  Work dates in October have been set.  If you are interested in helping build this trail, get out your work boots, gloves, and email us at trails@nearbynaturemke.org to RSVP and to get the location and all the details.
Work dates:
Tuesday afternoon, Oct 19 and 26, 1-4 pm.
Saturday Morning, October 23 and 30, 10 am to 1 pm.

ikers enjoy this pocket paradise

Nearby Nature Milwaukee Announces:

Lincoln Creek Conversations

Scene along Lincoln CreekThis summer, the Milwaukee River Greenway celebrated its 15th anniversary. That Greenway is 878 acres of protected land, laced with parks and 15 miles of shoreline trails.  Lincoln Creek runs for 6 miles, from Havenwoods to Lincoln Park.  In stark contrast to its bigger sibling, many of Lincoln Creek's segments are trash-filled, neglected and inaccessible.  For this reason, Trash in Lincoln CreekNearby Nature is hosting a series of "Lincoln Creek Conversations" to try and understand the community's relationship with the waterway and how things can improve.  This will be a series of walk-and-talk, zoom, and in-person meetings.  If you or your organization see yourselves as stakeholders in Lincoln Creek's neighborhoods, we want to have you involved. These are the first dates:
  • Walk & Talk in Havenwoods, Saturday, November 13th, 10 am, Havenwoods State Forest, 6141 N Hopkins St.
  • Evening Zoom Conversation, Tuesday, November 16th, 5 pm
  • Afternoon Zoom Conversation, Tuesday, November 30th, 3 pm
To have a place at this table, walk or zoom, contact Steven Hunter by emailing steven@nearbynaturemke.org
