Sermon Text: Mark 12:38-44
As he taught, he said, 'Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance, say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.’ He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, 'Truly I tell you; this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.’
A Message From Your Pastor
Well, the Braves are in the World Series and won the first game, so the week started out great. I hope it is for you as well. The weather has been wonderful. It has been dry, and the rain was a gift. Fortunately, it looks like we may get more rain. I my hope is it is without anything harsh. Please, let us pray for those who suffered from the severe storms in the Far West, West, and Midwest.
The Worship Committee and I met Monday morning, and we discussed many things: All Saints Sunday, Advent Season, and the Christmas Eve service. We also discussed having a combined service each quarter (fifth Sundays) with a meal following. As is our custom, we will be meeting in a combined worship service in the sanctuary, at 10 AM, throughout the season of Advent.
The Committee needs volunteers to help decorating the sanctuary for the Advent Season. Remember, “Many hands make lite work.” So, when you see the date and time to decorate announced, please put them on your calendar. With enough people, it could be quickly done. I am confident all of us would like our sanctuary to be attractive and festive for the season.
After much thought and discussion, we have decided that beginning the first Sunday of January, to provide more time for those who are physically disabled to prepare for worship, we are changing worship times. The Traditional Service (first service) will begin at 9:45 A.M. The Casual Worship Service (second service) will begin at 11:15 A.M. Fellowship time will be from 10:45 to 11:15 A.M. Each Sunday School class should feel free to independently decide what time they wish to start and end their particular class—before or after the first worship service. Some may want to meet early, while others late.
I know this is a significant change, but we can make this very positive with prayer, consideration, and genuine effort. See Ya Sunday! I am
Yours through Christ.

Our flowers Sunday are given to the Glory of God.
Join the J.O.Y. Class for a study of Ruth—
The main theme of the Book of Ruth is redemption. While the book illustrates the concept of redemption beautifully, its primary purpose appears to have been to reveal how God often works providentially behind the scenes, bringing His will to pass. As we study Ruth, we will appreciate anew the tough choices of faith the characters in the story made, and be encouraged to do the same as we rely on God who accomplishes His purposes through people who trust Him.
We’d love to have you join the J.O.Y. class for this powerful 4-week study.
Daily Savings Time – November 7, 2021
Remember to please set your clocks back one hour by 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning on November 7, 2021.
All Saints Sunday
There will only be one service Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Sunday School will be at 9:00 a.m. We will have fellowship at 11:00 a.m. in Berly Hall followed by a Churchwide meeting at 11:15 a.m. All Saints Sunday Service is November 7, 2021. We will be remembering our loved ones that have passed away in the last year. Please help us get the word out to the family members that have lost someone during that time that would like to attend this special service.
PB & Chicken Sunday
PB&C Sunday will be October 31, 2021. (The last Sunday of the month.) We are still in great need of your support for Baskervill Food Pantry.
The preferred size of donated peanut butter is about one pound jars. Money is also welcome as Duane Keck has been purchasing these items at bargain prices. If it’s easier, you can also give online, or put a check in the offering plate which is labeled for this cause on the memo line.
Thank you—you are making such a difference to the people who live around you.
Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child
We still have a few boxes left to fill if you would like to pick them up Sunday. Please fill up the boxes you picked up and bring them back to the church by November 14, 2021. When you return the boxes, please check off that you have returned them. Don’t forget to include a $9.00 shipment cost. Please make check payable to Samaritan’s Purse or follow instructions on line as instructed on the pamphlet inside the box. The pamphlet will also give you instructions on how to pack the shoebox. Please tape labels on top of box and do not pack the boxes to full. For more information, please contact Carolyn McGill or the church office.
No Christmas Angel Tree in 2021
The bottom line is that we will not help children from the local schools this year—we’ve been told that the school district does not want the nurses involved in this because to the high volume of work they face due to COIVD-19. The Mission Committee has told the schools that, if there is a tremendous need such as one which arose in 2020, we will help. We trust things will return to some sense of normality in 2022 and that we can help the local community.
