October began with perfect warm sunny days, ideal weather to yellow leaf plants in the garden to get them ready for their big date with harvest. Yet we knew cold nights were coming soon, and our team thought ahead to make frost cloth covers for each plant just in case it lasted for more than a night or two.

This was good thinking, as we indeed did get a few nights into the high twenties up here at 2600 feet altitude, so it was good to sleep knowing the girls in the garden were protected.

A HIGHlight at the start of October was the Meadowlands gathering at Camp Navarro in the redwoods near the Mendocino coast. What a joy to see old friends, make new ones and enjoy being together in nature - a superb wrap to a wonderful summer.

We were honored to lead a remembrance to our dear friend Frenchy Cannoli on the main stage at the opening ceremonies. He will always be in a most special place in our hearts.

Swami began asking the plants when they were ready to come in, and the first harvest happened dark and early on October 4th, when Magic Melon was cut before the first light.

The final cut was on October 17th, just in time before the first heavy rains began. All the girls were safe and cozy drying in the barn with a perfect balance of temperature and humidity thanks to fans, dehumidifiers and the woodstove at times.

Our friends from Homegrown Cannabis Co. joined us for a few mornings in the dark to film the final installment of the video they have been working on for over a year now, portraying the full season of a sungrown cannabis crop.

Stay tuned for the announcement of when we can all see it!

As if to make up for such a long drought this past year, the rains let loose for the second half of the month, drenching the ground which greedily soaked it up. The creeks are running full again, Lake Rubbadukkie is already rising, and the meadow is turning green.

What a change from the long dry spring and summer. Now we pray the rains will last all winter and well into spring as all the western states so desperately need it.

The garden is sadly empty now, but cover crop has been scattered on the barren mounds already and covered with straw. Luckily, the prayer flags around the garden keep the hungry turkeys away from flying over the fence in search of the seeds!

And now we hunker down while the plants dry and cure and are bucked down in preparation of making their debut. The crop looks gorgeous, with luscious buds and an intoxicating aroma that heralds delicious terpene highs to come. The wood stove is blazing, Tipu puppy is cozy by the fire, and autumn is here.

Life is good.
