Avoid a Halloween Covid-19 horror show!
🎃 👻🦉 Halloween is just around the corner and although we all love a good scare, with case rates higher now than during last year’s lockdown, Cornwall Council’s Public Health team is urging caution 🧛🕸️🦇
Around 50% of cases are currently in under-18s, and in recent weeks Covid numbers have rocketed in schools across Cornwall.
So, as we make plans to celebrate Halloween with parties or trick-or-treating, it’s important we all keep doing our bit to stop the spread if we want to avoid a Covid horror show.
Dr Whitney Curry in our Public Health team loves Halloween! Check out her video on top tips for keeping safe if you're having a spooktacular party or heading out trick or treating 👇
We're hosting an online Let's Talk climate event for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as part of the official COP26 regional roadshow events.
We'll be sharing messages from Alok Sharma President of COP26, and Nigel Topping UK High Level Climate Action Champion for COP26 UN climate talks. Monty Hall (of Fisherman's Apprentice fame) will give the keynote address.
Through six themed, inspirational discussions between informed speakers and passionate and engaged local advocates, the event will highlight the issues of climate change and what action we can all take to reduce our carbon impact.
We hope you will be able to join us at the event on Monday 8 November, 10am to 2pm. Use the button below to register for your free online place.
The chancellor, Rishi Sunak, unveiled his autumn budget and spending review this week.

Elsewhere the budget also saw a one year 50% reduction in business rates for the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, money to help schools and colleges recover from the pandemic, and investment in early years and families.

We're urging people who will be setting off fireworks & having bonfires tonight to plan ahead & prepare carefully to be as safe as possible. Think BONFIRE.
Build away from sheds, trees or homes Observers - keep them at a safe distance from the fire or fireworks Notify the fire service if you're having a bonfire Fuels - never add petrol or accelerants to your fire In case of emergency - have a bucket of water or hose ready Return - never go back to fireworks once they have been lit Extinguish - make sure the fire is out before you leave
Watch the fire services helpful video and visit their website for a whole host of safety tips and advice to have a happy but safe bonfire night.
It’s not too late to have your say about proposed changes to the operation of leisure centres in Cornwall, the consultation closes on Sunday 31 October.
The pandemic has had a devastating impact on the leisure sector across the country, and the loss of income is having a long term impact on how leisure services in Cornwall can be provided in future.
We want to hear your views and how you might be affected by our proposals.
